how to merge 90k 256x256 jpgs into one big PSB?

by inMotion » Fri May 12, 2017 9:04 am

Long story short, my hard drive crashed with all my panos and I need to send a pano to a client - fortunately it is on gigapan.com - I found this neat little script that can download and supposedly stitch the image back to a PSB: https://github.com/DeniR/Gigapan-Downlo ... d-stitcher

Great - except it crashes while stitching. It took 20 hours to just download all the files with that script. I have all the files it downloaded - 96,728 of them in 256x256 tiles. 106 rows, 903 columns.

I tried to load the files into Autopano giga using the Gigapan import - that crashes too...or at least it says it is not responding.

I also am trying to load it using Gigatiler 2.0.1 x64's merge function - except I can find zero documentation. Can someone help me with the settings?? What should I put under "template" and "input image"?

Hello,

Have you sent the crash report? Cannot find a record with your email address.
Which version of APG are you using? Have you tried with another version? Does the crash occur with that pano only?
Be sure you have the latest PROPRIETARY video driver installed.
I invite you to have a look, at the troubleshooting section of the documentation as well: http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/vie ... umentation

Any chance to get the pictures to make a try?

Best regards,
Olivier

Hi Oliver,

I didn't see any opportunity to send a crash report. I left the gigapan import running overnight and I got this error - "Error during detection bad allocation".

There are 95,000 256x256px images with no overlapping borders. Can autopano stitch this back together?

What do you mean by PROPRIETARY video driver? I have a 970m 3gb and the latest Nvidia drivers. AGP 4.4

Also, can you provide any recommendation for the settings for Gigatiler 2? Again, I am unable to find any documentation.

ninja edit: I just tried with fewer tiles (6,000) and this time I got the error "Exception Bad Allocation in file: ".\\RenderPreview.ccp" Line 91

Hello,

What do you mean by no "overlapping borders" exactly?

When I'm asking if you use the latest proprietary driver it means that you do not use Windows generic drivers ;)
What you can try before importing the footage, is to disable GPU processing. Close and relaunch the app for testing.

The documentation is here (you can reach it via the Help menu of APG): http://www.kolor.com/wiki-en/action/view/Documentation

Can you give me more information about your hardware (Computer brand and model, RAM, OS and version)? Did you change anything in the preferences (cache, memory used)?

Best,
Olivier

What I mean by "no overlap" is that the images I have are 256x256 square tiles that compose an entire 6 gigapixel image. They need to be reassembled into the gigapixel. These aren't images from the camera taken with roughly 30% overlap for each shot.

No tricky calculations need to be done to render the images matching features from one image to the next. The tiles just need to be reassembled. (Think of it as if I used the gigatiler to tile a gigapixel...I now need to put those tiles back into a gigapixel)

Did you see my questions about gigatiler 2?

Hello,

I'm really sorry. I haven't received any new notification!! =(

Gigatiler has been developed for some specific cases and not meant to be available to users (dev is stopped since mid 2012).
Have you tried on another computer?

Let me know.

Best,
Olivier

I haven't been able to try it on another computer.

Can Autopano giga compile these images back into a gigapixel? Do you know what procedure that would be?
