Disable distortion correction at the scale of a pano

by stanekm » Fri Jul 22, 2016 10:55 am

Hi everybody, please help:

I try to make a montage of cca 15x20 microphotographs capturing the surface of a rectangular thin section of cca 6x8 cm, each image having cca 4k x 3k pixels. With default setting, the result is good except the montage (at the scale of the whole montage) is biased towards a pincushion: outward corners, inward edges, but the real object (the thin section) is a perfect rectangle.
How to make Autopano not to make the correction that produces this effect? What box should I check/uncheck?
Because of using a microscope, all the images have exactly the same setting in terms of distortion which I want to correct (barrel/pincushion) but there is no distortion at the scale of the whole montage as it is the case probably of usual (e.g. contryside) panoramas.
In my case, I use Autopano mainly to help with antighost / blend / gamma + color correction, and in this aspect it works good for me, but how to get rid of this pincushion bias at the scale of the whole montage please?

Thanks in advance,
Martin

Hi Martin,

You can look at this...

and this...

I hope you find it useful.
Kind regards,

Hi Jordi,

thanks for the useful links, they brought me to the result I wanted!
To sum up, these are the key features to avoid pincushion effect when assembling photos of e.g. map or in my case of surface of a flat object:

Before "detect",
in group settings:
- uncheck First Lens Distortion
- uncheck Final Lens Distortion
in image properties
- set focal length to all images to a high value, 2000 mm worked fine for me.

Good luck to everybody,
Martin
