h264 files not working Windows 10:

by andrewcochrane » Sat May 27, 2017 7:35 am

I am trying to render to h264 and the resulting videos generate the error in the attached screenshot. It might have something to do with Directshow vs Media Foundation, as changing that backend setting in GoPro VR player got the video to play for a moment before crashing too.

As an update, these files are playable in OSX but not Win10.

Hi Andrew,

I cannot reproduce the bug here on Windows 10. Can you make sure that you don't have a specific A/V pipeline (third parties codec installed) on your computer?

You can use this tool to verify this: http://codecguide.com/windows7_preferre ... weaker.htm

Thanks,

Martin

Hey Martin, as an update to this, it looks like a recent Windows update did 2 things:

1) broke Quicktime playback of h264's from AVP
2) added the ability to play 360 videos with GoPro VR player-like pan and scan rectilinear perspective

So it works, but not the way it used to, perhaps in a better way though :)
