Performance inconsistency with Dwarp

by panoguy » Sun May 21, 2017 1:32 pm

I did render a few different shots using the new Dwarp functionality and found a strange performance problem.
The performance degradation appears with 2 shots, with 5 other shots I don't see a problem with the performance.
After applying the Dwarp to the clip the performance of the preview goes down to zero.
Also the render time increases dramatically from 6.9fps to only 0.2fps.

The shots have been recorded with the same OMNI, same day, same settings, 1440 60fps
Till now I was not able to identify any difference what is causing this big difference...

1. Rendering Test 1, DWARP on
Settings :
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Synchronous
Statistics :
Total time : 19 min:28 s
FPS : 0.2097
Decoding : 2.7 %
Rendering : 1e+2 %
Encoding : 0.63 %

2. Rendering Test 2, DWARP on
Settings :
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Synchronous
Statistics :
Total time : 51.31 s
FPS : 6.899
Decoding : 88 %
Rendering : 89 %
Encoding : 5.1 %

Found a possible reason for the performance issue.
Seems the performance issue had been caused by applying the stabilization manually to the shot and not during the creation of the project using the Omni importer.
After importing the project from scratch with stabilization enabled I could apply Dwarp without performance degradation. Preview and rendering runs just fine.

I have the same problem, however I cannot try your solution because my SD-cards are now empty.

Hi there,

The difference of rendering time is explained by the activation (or not) of the rolling shutter compensation with the OMNI. It will make the rendering time about 30 times slower.

Enable it only if (really) needed!

Cheers,

Martin
