facebook panorama metadata missing

This is a bug report for AutoPano 4.4.1 on both linux and windows.

AutoPano is not adding the required metadata to allow facebook (and others) to detect the image as a panorama.
For some people it works sometimes, but for me it's almost never worked.
It's easy to check using the command-line exiftool, look for output like this:
Code: Select all
Stitching Software              : Autopano Giga 4.4.1
Use Panorama Viewer             : True
Projection Type                 : equirectangular
Cropped Area Image Height Pixels: 3125
Cropped Area Image Width Pixels : 15000
Full Pano Height Pixels         : 7498
Full Pano Width Pixels          : 15000
Cropped Area Left Pixels        : 0
Cropped Area Top Pixels         : 2505
Source Photos Count             : 23

This is fully documented in the thread http://www.kolor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=36631

Please could you log this as a bug and let me know the bug number.

Hello,

Does it occur with that specific pano or all the panos? If so, can you share/send your pictures?

Best,
Olivier

I do not have any issue publishing a 36% rendered panorama (29761x7384)...
I do not know what's wrong?

I can assure you that in my tests I do not get the appropriate metadata added to the output file.
Please could you examine the source code and find the problem.

Was there ever a definitive solution to this issue. I'm having the same issue 3 months later...

Thanks

I think I figured it out the problem but don't have a solution yet. Annis replied to a post I made a couple of minutes ago and asked me if I altered the APG output it in any way. The answer is yes. I used PS 2018's new spherical editing tool (works amazing) to patch the nadir and add text. I guess it stripped out the exif data on export? So I need to figure out a way to reinsert the data. I don't think PS allows changing the camera data as far as I can see. I found Xifer.net but would rather not upload the image. Any ideas how to get that data back? There must be a way to preserve the original data upon exporting from PS but like I said it's new so I don't know of one yet.

Thanks

Just tried to upload the original output from APG and it worked fine with facebook. Photoshop didn't retain the data upon export which is the issue so now I have to locate a "retain original data" setting in PS (2018). Any ideas.

Thanks

Hi Err
If you make a note of the following before you edit using the XMP tab in exiftoolgui

Projection Type : equirectangular
Cropped Area Image Height Pixels: nnnnn
Cropped Area Image Width Pixels : nnnnnn
Full Pano Height Pixels : nnnn
Full Pano Width Pixels : nnnnn
Cropped Area Left Pixels : nnnn
Cropped Area Top Pixels : nnnnn

After the 3rd party software has deleted all this (they ALL do) you can put them back using the exiftoolgui which can be download and used FOC

Use the "Exiftool Direct" tab and then use the format :

-xmp:<exifcolumnname>="value"

It is time consuming but it does work (I tried it myself!)

Thanks Martin. Also, I just did a little research (because it was frustrating the heck outa me and I couldn't get any work done) and found these PS templates from FB's official page. All you have to do is past your pano and "save as" (not export or save for web). It works perfect. You can change the file info to reflect your © as well.

Here's the facebook page with the link to the templates below it:

Just save the pano as a jpg (max size 6000 x 3000 and it must be exactly 2 : 1 aspect ratio) and then right click on the file and select properties > details and add:

camera manufacturer Ricoh
camera Ricoh Theta S

apply the changes and upload to FB, works everytime
