[OSX 10.9, APG 3.0.8] APG calculates wrong HFOV (maybe)

by mohnid » Tue Jan 07, 2014 9:52 pm

I have a set of 18 images shot handheld in a single row, where APG is having troubles stitching it together.
I discussed the issue in the APG User Forum, but it look s like there is a bug somewhere.
see: http://www.kolor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21005

Even if the scene is not of interest to anyone expect me, I think that I should report the problem to the developers
If you look at the attached image you will see that the ends of the pano are overlapping.
This means APG think it's a 360°+ Panorama, but it is not...

I exported them as jpeg to get a smaller Archive for testing...
You can get the archive here

Regards,
Daniel

Just for reference, APG 3.5b1 still has the same issue...

Hi mohnid,
I can reproduce your issue in 3.0.8 but, to me, it is solved by version 3.5 beta.
With default settings, I get an HFOV of 303° and an estimated focal of 58.1 mm, so the ends of the pano are no more overlapping.
This HFOV is still overestimated, maybe due to parallax.
By removing the control points most affected by parallax (the closest ones), the HFOV drops under 180°.
Visually, the renderings with HFOV of 303° and 180° look exactly the same, this is because these two solutions are mathematically very close.
If you still have the overlapping problem on your side, what you can do is to disable estimation of the focal.
Best regards,
Antoine

Hi Antoine,
thanks for the reply I als tried now with the jpg images and get (default settings) a HFOV of 185°, but when I use the raw images I still get a HFOV of 360°.
Where can I disable 'estimation of focal', is this in 'optimization scopes' -> focal (disabled) ?
Kind regards,
Daniel

Hi,
Yes, this is the way to disable focal estimation.
Best regards,
Antoine.

Humm, I forgot that disabling focal estimation of standard lenses is not fully functional in beta1. The fix for that will come with beta2, begining of next week.
But it's worth trying with beta1.

I just tried with disabled focal estimation, no changes on the raw images...
I will be away for the next 3 weeks, I will try beta 2 or maybe beta 3 when I am back
Best regards,
Daniel

I back from holiday and tried beta3, rendering is correct if I disable focal estimation.
Resulting HFOV is 294°...
