[APP 2.5RC2 Win7x64] Focal (35mm Equiv)...

by Ronald » Mon Jan 31, 2011 3:15 am

I wonder why in the Focal column the values are always different, when the pictures were taken with the very same focal length? the difference may vary up 10mm... this is an issue already reported?

It doesn't matter if you're using CR2 or TIFF16 the behavior is the same...

That's normal. We don't rely totally on the exif value because this value is not continuous, it's a discrete value ( on a zoom, make this test : shoot several image while moving slowly the zoom, you'll see only some value, not intermediary value ).
So, what we display is the calculation results, not the exif recorded. And it can vary and be different depending on the optimization settings.

It would be nice for APG to have an option to say that all the focal lengths are the same, even if APG changes them, each image would have the same focal length. (IIRC if APG detects them all the same initially, it keeps them that way, but sometimes you get a bad link....)

I tried to explose that and in fact, the results in stitching quality are not as good as with a free focal length.
That's why I didn't check further in this direction.
