I want to spend a combined total of ~$1500 for a DSLR body + Lense for use with an Orion head to take landscape panoramas, I'd appreciate any recommendations.

I've thought about the Panasonic GH1 which comes with 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH./MEGA O.I.S. Lense, would that be suitable?

Other than that the Canon Ti1 looks like a good body to me... Open to suggestions

I second that proposal. If you want lighter body - 450D/500D will do.

A very seducing price for such a fine camera, but what about the lense(s) cost ?

The Panasonic GH1 (and Panasonic G1) are smaller and lighter cameras (a significant plus for motorized panohead ?) with fine lenses (the 14-140mm/F4.0-5.8 ASPH is a fine equivalent to a 28-280 mm zoom for FF cameras!) Those 4/3 sensor cameras have a lower pixel count (not a severe problem for stitched panos) and are not good at high ISO (just use a slower speed setting.)

Besides that, the difference in dynamic range (like for any Canon DSLR, the 5D dynamic range is higly appraised) could make the decision...

Using smaller, lighter and less expensive DSLR rather than large, heavy and very expensive FF cameras and lenses for stitched panos should make sense because pixel count and high ISO are not real problems for that. But the truth is I replaced my nice bridge camera with a 4/3 Olympus DSLR because noise and low dynamic range were a plague and some years latter didn't resist to get one of the Fuji F5 available as a bargain because of its noticeable dynamic range...
