Panosaurus clip-on mod

In the panorama field, hardware is also part of the success. You can discuss here about it: camera, computer, pano head, anything

Panosaurus clip-on mod

Has anyone had any luck with modding the Panosaurus to enable clipping the camera into place instead of having to use the screws?

I use a Manfrotto 303SPH and replaced the rail closest to the camera with a quick release system It looks big, but its lightweight.

I used this plate instead of the included one:

Note that the alignment issue is alignment along the "bottom" of the adapter plate--if the plate rotates, it means that your camera is tilted a degree or so up or down. (i.e. your pitch is not 0 degrees). This shouldn't affect your pano too much. Likewise, roll and yaw are not important. But the center of the plate has to be in exactly the same place all the time, or your "fore and aft" and "up and down" positioning becomes random. This quick release system seemed to be the best as far as repeatability goes. And it matches the QR system on my other tripod.
