Hi there,

Clauss heads ( http://www.dr-clauss.de/ ) are motorized panohead. We used a modified version of VR head for Paris 26 gigapixel picture.

This head is really usefull for holding heavy dual DSLR (2X 5D Mark II for example with 400 mm lenses). But this head suffer of software support. Today, only a windows limited apps is available. My goal is to offer Clauss panohead support on PapyWizard.

I'm working on decoding Clauss motorized panohead protocol. With that information, I will be able to create a new Papywizard plugin, who could directly drive Clauss head within Papywizard.

You can find more information on AutoPano Wiki (only in French now): http://www.autopano.net/wiki-fr/action/view/Tête_panoramique_Clauss.

If you are an owner of Clauss head, and interested on my project, please contact me.

Latest news: Regular model VR Head was tested. It's working fine with Papywizard.

If you have other models, feel free to test it!

Thanks tived for your harm message :)

BTW, fma38 will release soon 2.1.21 version of Papywizard, including Clauss plugin and new features (such as Goto ° position).

For Linux users, this version is available on Papywizard's SVN. For Windows users, an installer is ready (just MP me if it's not yet released).

I wonder if anybody was able to connect a Clauss head to a N810 via Bluetooth.
And if so, how did you do it?
My problem is that one needs a password to establish the connection.
The code is known for the Clauss head but is built from letters while the N810/Papywizard only allows numbers :((

Thanks
Jürgen

Hello Jürgen,

Yes, this is a weird situation you are reporting.

Although Clauss plugin run smootly on Papywizrd (Windows, OS X, Linux), I don't own any Nokia Phone and never tried it.

From now, I suggest you to try that two options:
1) Is there any way to do Bluetooth pairing prior to launch Papywizard ? Then using serial link in Papywizard.
2) Try to have a talk with fma38 (who own Nokia phone) and see if there is a way Papywizard accept chars in Bluetooth Pairing.

Fma38: any ideas?

It may not be possible. I tried pairing (with a different device from N800/N810) using the system level tools in the Control panel and was only able to enter numeric characters.

It appears that the Maemo OS only permits numeric Bluetooth passcodes.

Thank you guys.
I will call Clauss tomorrow.
I'm curious if they will support people using anything besides their proprietary software.

Oh, and while we are at it:
The prior goal would be to overcome the shitty PDA solution for the Clauss and avoid using a laptop.
So the next best solution would of course be to connect the Clauss ot the 810 via USB.
Is that possible? I don't have a cable with micro USB at hand to check this.

One last question:

Have you been able to connect the Clauss to a Mac(book), and if so, how?
I just installed the beta version of Papywizard with the plugins which seems to work fine, but what about the Clauss?
I get no reaction when I plug it into the USB of the MBPro.

Well, in theory, it should be possible.

You need a special calb,e called OTG if I remember correctly, which switch the usb port to host mode. Then, you may need to power up the usb port, as the Nokia does not; there, a simple usb hub, battery powered, should work.

But how does the Claus usb connection work? Do you know if it just emulates a virtual com port? If so, this will just need the serial python module on the Nokia (I have to make tests to be sure it works)... If the usb connection uses another way to communicate, this will require a specific driver, using the libusb.

BTW, it may be possible to change the Claus password once you have paired through system tools? Did you try (under MacOS or Windows, for example)?

Thank you Frederic, your input and help is much appreciated.

I yet do not have a BT dongle for my Desktop PC which runs under WIN.
Pairinig the Clauss to my Macbook pro doesn't work for the same reasons why I can't pair it with the N810: Only numeric values for password possible.

BUT: I connected the Clauss to my WIN PC with the USB cable and, yes, it seems to be jsut a virtual COM Port.
I was able to control the Clauss with the Clauss software, but no luck with Papywizard.
In the PW plugin I set the connection to serial but when trying to connect I get an error message.
Also the log shows a lot of errors ;)

Just one remark: When I set the serial port to 0 in the plugin I can read in the error log the following line:
Quote:
SerialException: could not open port COM3:

Looking at the device manager the Clauss is connected to COM 2.
Also if I set the Clauss to another COM port the port in the error message is always 1 digit higher.

Papywizard enumerates serial ports from zero. So in Papywizard you can enter the value '0' or 'COM1', '1' or 'COM2', and so on....

So, here, you need to enter 1, or COM2...

Well, if it was that easy I wouldn't be here
Tried all that with no luck.
