Best computer for AVP?

by Michael H » Sun Nov 08, 2015 10:05 pm

Hi everybody
I need to upgrade/buy an new computer in order to render quicker. Hence I would be grateful for any advice on what to buy?
Did you just buy the parts and then put it together yourself or are there any ready build solutions? (best in the UK or delivered to the uk)

Kind regards
Michael

With autopano video, it comes down to the graphics card, the better it is the faster your renders will take place. I use a mac, various systems and have been pleased with the results but when switching to a pc with a 12GB graphics card I see marked improvements. Custom builds give the most power and 'bang for the buck' or 'power per pound' as it were, I would suggest building a PC with a GeForce 12GB graphics card.

thanks for this.

I am currently using a laptop with an geforce 850 gtm with 2gb and 16gb ram and a relatively quick cpu.
the geforce with 12 gb is out of my budget right now as I am more looking for something around 1500 british pounds / 2000 euros in total. i will probably custom build it myself

Quick correction : it's not only a matter of GPU. It's a balance between CPU - GPU - SSD.

martin could you be so kind to elaborate? and from your guys experience, what would you recommend? windows based, and just the tower itself.

So I would mainly need to know
what graphics card
what GPU and how many rams.
Mainboard and SSD I can probably find myself then

For 2k€ more or less, gtx980, i7-5820K, 32gb ddr4, Kingston HyperX Predator M.2 SSD or Samsung SM951 M.2 SSD. I get 4-6min stitch/render time for 1min of video.

thanks for that I will have a look at them all. Are 500GB ofSSD enough? (and with the SSD, do you have windows on that plus AVP or just use it for the temporary files?)

i have windows on a samsung 850 evo, the temps on the predator, with 500gb i think you have enough for one medium project (we have to wait for bigger fast afordable m2 ssds), once finished move the files to a storage hdd of 4tb or so.
