Video crop area

by ondrej » Tue May 15, 2018 2:12 pm

Hi there, I wonder why I am not able to set the centre of the crop area to the centre of the video frame? By forcing it to the middle of the equi I need to select a significant portion of the ceiling to be able to frame the guy in the scene - see attached screenshot.

As a consequence, half of the video height is wasted on rendering ceiling. Considering Livepano highest video output height is 1080px, this leaves only around 500px to the subject on the video.

That means video quality so low it is unusable for any serious work.

Is there any workaround so I could set the crop around the subject, please?

Many thanks
Ondrej

If your camera was pointing down when shooting the video, no you wan't be able to crop around the subject .

When shooting a livepano, the best is to shoot horizontally (with the camera in rotrait mode if the moving subject is a person) .

Many thanks Gerald,
I shot the video with the exact same lens as the pano, with camera in portrait mode pointing straight to the horizon. Then I cropped the video before creating Livepano. Please see the screenshots. I've tried to use the original video without the crop with the same results.

Could you please tell what's the best shooting method for the video to avoid this problem in the future. I am shooting another Livepano this week so it would be helpful to know how to avoid this problem.

Many thanks
Ondrej

What do you mean by "before creating livepano" ?

Did you the following ?
  1. shoot the video
  2. crop it to create a smaller video
  3. extract a frame from this smaller video
  4. stitch the panorama with the extracted frame
  5. then create the livepano using the wizard in PTP

Yes, that's exactly what I did.

Also, I tried to use the original video (extract frame, stitch, create livepano) but results were the same (worse).
