Problems with Sony Alpha 77

by Moni86 » Fri Nov 27, 2015 7:09 pm

Hello there,
I use to create virtual tours, the Sony Alpha 77. Now I have a video recorded with this camera to enjoy it as a Livepano.
The tripod, the aperture & exposure is the same as in the Pano Creation.

Unfortunately, the video takes on a different image section in the same place. Is there a trick? Or I have to buy a new camera?

Many thanks for your help

What do you mean it takes on a different image section in the same place? It isn't stitched correctly?

It means that the Video recording has a Little zoom, and yes thasts the reason why the stiching is not correctly i think.

Hi there,

I have had ptp with paid livepano and apg for 3+ years now and have never been able to solve this same problem that the OP has posted. I was shooting with a Sony A57 up until a few months ago when I got a A77ii.

I just tried to publish a live pano a fee moments ago following the tutorials very precisely but ended up in a huge fail.

Admins, is there a know issue with the Sony A57 A77 type cameras?

Because last time I tried it with the A57 I came to the same possible issue that the movie depth of field may be off when compared to the photograph dof, therefore creating unstitchable livepanos.

Can we please get some official comments on this issue.

Thanks.

Can you share source files (photos + video + frame + your panorama) for a Livepano shot with that camera?
What is your exact shooting config? (Video parameters, what lens..)

There aren't any particular issues related to those cameras that I know of.

Hi Annis, sorry I missed this post.
What is the best way to share these files?

Regards,

Russ

Hi all,

In case you are shooting in mp4, Sony has a tendency to cheat a little bit the system. Actually, the pixel ratio is reduced (the pixel becomes rectangular) - though when played with the right video codec, it is then extended back to it's square shape.

For example, a video shot in 1080i is actually a 1920x1080 resolution file, but 1440x1080. I won't go too much into details, and I'm not sure that the latest Sony cameras have that gitch, but the Nex series had that serious hiccup up to the lastest models.

Use a video tool such as Final Cut to put the file to its final size and the correct pixel ratio, and then do your screenshot.

Not sure this helps, but good luck.

Hello, I have not been shooting panos lately but I do think I have figured out why the livepano does not play nice with sony a77. If you have steady shot turned on for video, the field of view will crop in order to calm down any shaking. Turn it off and you will see that it will not crop any more.

I have not tried it and probably never will but I hope it can help some one else. Please post back if you can confirm this is the case.
