Re: simple Connection to Merlin head Mac help

Hi thanks for answering my post, i now that i am totally out of my depth and don't know what !'m talking about it's actually a serial to RJ-12 i think it might only be for updating the firmware on the SynScan hand control!!!

is there a way to use the software to control the mount over ethernet or usb?

That's fine - if you have the handset with two connectors on it then I think that means you have the 'Go To' version of the Merlin mount - and if that's the case then I believe you can control the Melin using a connection 'chain' of USB-serial convertor, the serial-RJ12 cable to the handset and the handset-Merlin. The handset in this configuration acting as a serial-TLL convertor.

Another user recently reported that his 'Go To' mount worked fine this way as I recall.

You need a Mac user to help you determine what paarmeters you need to set to configure the serial connection for/from Papywizard.

It's rather easier to use a Nokia Internet Tablet (N800/N810) as a Papywizard host and connect via Bluetooth using the PapyMerlin Bluetooth adapter for the Merlin end:

Re: simple Connection to Merlin head Mac help

Thanks for asking the question,  I have the same i.e. I am looking for information about command interface of Merlin mount. I mean pinout, command list, feedback.   Seems to be a serially controlled device.
Somebody knows the link to user manual giving this informations,  or manufacturer www?

Serial command specifications works for any platform , also for MAC so i may solve the problem.

Re: simple Connection to Merlin head Mac help

Hello Pawel,

The Merlin mount is controled trough TTL 5V not RS232 ...
If you want some informations about the protocol and instructions, you will not directly find into documentation of the supplier.
You will find a lot of this kind of informations in the dedicated Wiki and the Papywizard web site of Fréderic (FMA38)
http://www.autopano.net/wiki-fr/action/ … ons_Merlin
http://www.papywizard.org/

The way to connect trough a wired connection is described here:
http://www.autopano.net/forum/p57097-20 … -15#p57097

You can read also :

The FAQ's : http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/ … Merlin_FAQ

And have a look into our users database:

Il-y-a également une partie du forum dédicacé à Papywizard en français : wink
