Hi guys,
Following the discussion http://www.autopano.net/forum/t9421-so, … dual-cpu-s
I have had a look at my own workflow and been trying to work out a more efficient workflow, before jumping out and buying more hardware.
I currently have two computers, but very similar
the main computer (Master)
Dual AMD Opteron 285 (Dual Core 2.66Ghz) (XP x64)
8 GB ECC RAM
4 x 1 TB disk (1 TB system, 1 TB scratch, 2x1 TB Scratch RAID-0)
2x 1.5TB Storage...plus 10TB of offline storage (just added it up,ouch!)
2nd Computer (Slave)
Intel Quad Extreme 2.666Ghz (Vista x64)
8 GB RAM
1x Raptor
1x 320GB Scratch 2
2x 320GB RAID-0 Scratch 1
2x 1TB Storage
both machines are hooked up to a Giga Network
I load my image on to the Master computer, and sort through them.
I load my pano sets on to AUTOPANO or PTGUI, set them up so that i am happy and save the project file
Then I open up Remote Desktop to the Slave computer, and startup either of the Pano programs and run the batch process on this machine.
I can now happily continue to work on my master computer, and do my photoshop work other paid work.
The next phase will be to ensure that the slave computer is color managed via the Remote desktop, so I can leave all data on the slave computer and everything is run from there (it can still be run from there atm, but I have everything on the master computer) its the color calibration that is the vital point here.
If this works, I will add on my partners computer, another Quad Extreme and my old HP DL 385 and its Mass Storage Array and we can have a real Pano factory going :-) next will then be to get the Autopano Server :-)
anyway, just thought i'd let you all know
Henrik
PS: Still working on my Super beast of a workstation with 32GB of ram and 12 or 16 cores :-) been eying a Areca 16-channel Raid card!!!! :-) load it up with small SSD disks!
