Weird Xs at top and bottom

I'm demoing the software before buying. For each stop on the pano head I took three bracketed images. I put all these images into Autopano Pro a strange result

A scaled version is attached.

Parts of the image are definitely interesting, other parts are really messed up.

I also tried just putting in the center bracketed images, but still the same thing happened.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Here is a jpg that represents one of the source images. The source files are raw files with crw extension.

Re: Weird Xs at top and bottom

Welcome to the forum...

Tell me something about the camera, lens and pano head you are using.

How many images are there are in the image set? Is it a single row or multiple rows?

At first glance I suspect that you have more images that you need and that you have massive overlaps between images - you need only 25-30% overlap between adjacent images, and more is not better - and that APP is making links between non-adjacent images and this is distorting the stitch.

This tutorial may be relevant:
http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/ … _panoramas

Edit the control points and links so that you only have links between adjacent images, and remove control points from clouds, then re-optimise, as a first step.

And stick to one 'level' of your bracketed exposure sets until you have mastered stitching; one step at a time...

Re: Weird Xs at top and bottom

it looks like vignetting, you either have a too large filter on or the wrong hood, usually you should not have those dark corners. its not a software issue!

Re: Weird Xs at top and bottom

It has nothing to do with vignetting, you have some bad control points that warp the images. Do as mediavets said and remove CPs from clouds and such. Make sure you turned on the correct settings for fisheye images.

Re: Weird Xs at top and bottom

Thanks for the help, everyone. By cropping the images and eliminating every second image (I had too much overlap), I was able to make something that looksed almost correct.

But I was successful with a competitor's product much quicker, so I went with them.

Which product have you chosen in preference to APP/APG?

You didn´t crop the fisheye image correctly - that´s all. You should keep the rectangle inside the circle.
This way you don´t get dark corners - enough images and overlap you seem to have already.

best, Klaus

Re: Weird Xs at top and bottom

I bought PTGUI. I'm not a pro, just a dabbler, and it provided me with a good looking QTVR with a shorter learning curve.

Previously I used Stitcher.

An interesting choice. PTGui is a fine stitcher but most people find that PTGui has a much steeper learning curve than Autopano Pro/Giga. Good luck with it.

Look forward to welcoming you back here when you discover the error of your impetuous ways.wink

BTW the QTVR format is essentially obsolete. Currently Flash is the preferred format and krpano (for which Autopano Tour provides a GUI front-end), Flash Panorama Player and Pano2Vr are the leading panorama viewers/players for Flash VRs.
