Using GPS

Just dreaming here
Say I make many panorama's on a trip. My camera has GPS or I have a GPS-logging device. This means that when I process my panorama's the resulting files have GPS information in them.
Now I take autopano-tour. As all the created panorama's have GPS information autopano-tour knows which part of the world I have been and automaticly downloads a map from where  I have been and places hotspots on the map where the panorama's where made. Presto

Am I dreaming too loud here?

As GPS information is there one click of a button is enough to upload individual panorama's to google.maps/360cities.net etc....

Re: Using GPS

Which camera do you have that has GPS enabled on it?  That seems like a great function to incorporate into your pano images.

Re: Using GPS

Some P&S have GPS built in, and Nikon seems to have it as an addon to some DSLR bodies.

But PhotoTrackr (GPS logging device) allows modifying JPGs and claims to let you modify the RAW files.

Re: Using GPS

Hi HansKeesom,

Why did not you post this in "AutopanoTour - The future" section? Else I can't note all the ideas for this program as I almost bever come in this section of the forum.

Anyway, this idea already has been given there, and we think we will do a Google map plugin integration in conjunction with automatic GPS localisation. Right now this is not our dev plan for the next release but it will be studied for the future.

If you have any other dreams for APT just shout them in the right section of the forum! wink

regards,

Adrien

Adrien

That would be very nice; particularly if it incorporated the radar feature. I look forward to it.

I agree, this would be a very nice feature, especially with the radar feature.

none of my camera's has GPS. I use my PDA and a bluetooth GPS module to track my route while on a photo job. I use a programm called Geosetter to merge the information from the track into the exif data of the photos. Only thing important is to set date and time of camera exactly equal to date and time coming from GPS

A radar would need direction which is not logged by the GPS when turning around while making the photos for the pano. So that would be something to be done manually, although there might be a match between satelite data and your some photos.wink

Re: Using GPS

Manual intervention would be ok, but APP could determine compass direction if you had two or more panos in the project and at least one hotspot in each pano pointing to another pano.  (assuming all panos have reasonable geotags).  And assuming you placed the hotspots reasonably well in relation to the resolution of the pano.

Wow - let's keep it simple what's the problem with manual intervention.

For example, one could perhaps simply adopt the practise of shooting the first image in a pano series facing a specfic direction to provide a reference for later manual setting of the radar feature. Or place a simple marker in shot and edit that out later.
