APP Cloud Problems

I've been stitching panoramas with many puffy white clouds on a deep blue sky. APP puts control points on the clouds. Between the times of the first and last shots, the clouds have moved and the pano will not straighten.

I find it very tedious and time consuming to go through every pair of images and manually remove control points in the sky.

Hugin users can use the Celeste plugin to remove control points on clouds. Is there a similar function in Autopano Pro? If not is there any plan to include a similar feature in APP or license the Celeste code?

Re: APP Cloud Problems

I posted a reply in the Future forum: http://www.autopano.net/forum/t9288-all … d-erasable. I never used Hugin Celeste plugin, does it work well?

Re: APP Cloud Problems

The Celeste plugin works very well.

I found this article by the guy who wrote Celeste.

http://ultrawide.wordpress.com/2008/11/ … g-celeste/

I was just able to do one successful roundtrip from APP to Hugin and back via .pto files, alowing me to use Celeste to clean up the sky control points. Unfortunately, the two programs do not speak the same language on lens parameters and crop factors for my Samyang 8mm fisheye.

On the first try I was able to reset APP to read the Hugin data, but on a second try,  (with Global RMS of 3.75 million!) I was not able to get lens parameters back to normal so I gave up.

In any case, Celeste does a very good job of cleaning cloud control points and I'd love to see something similar in APP.

Re: APP Cloud Problems

Judy,

Have you tried the APG/APP 2.5 Alpha version?  Its ghost remover is pretty impressive.  It worked wonders on a nightmare I had... but I did not try it on fast moving clouds.
Also... 2.5 Alpha appears to have much better Auto control point recognition, plus the Manual control point adding is much faster and better recognition (10 minutes 2.5 Alpha vs 12 hrs APG 2.0 to do the same image).

That said... I was one of the testers that ran into a rendering problem/bug that has me stoped cold on that project until the next release.

Best...
Marv.
