mediavets thanks for posting this link. The Gigapan Epic Pro is surely interesting. You don't need extra devices to program it, no hassling with Bluetooth and organizers. I think the price they charge you is fair. In Germany they charge you a customs fee of 3,7% on the liisted price + costs for shipping. On all that there are 19% VAT. That is less than I imagined and I might get one. If it doesn't work as promised I could still sell it on Ebay.

in Germany they calculate this way:
(( amount payed + shipping fee) * 3,7%) * 19% Einfuhrumsatzsteuer
shipping fee is added to item value first !

Would the gigapan epic manage to hold a 300mm or 200-400mm nikon lens?
I've not heard from the company on the subject.
How would one compare it with the Merlin or the rodeon models.
Is the accurancy level of .12 degrees not comparable with the other models?

i just receive my 2 day ago. At the end i payd 1043 Dollars (UPS EXPRESS) and round about 200 EURO Tax and so on.

Marquee,
The epic pro will probably hold that. What is the weight? You can see that I am using Canon's 300mm 4.0 L lens in the video. I have used it w/ the 2x extender as well. You have to use to "motors ridgid" mode for heavier lenses so that tilt doesn't sink the motors are not in motion.

Hi Gregdowning:
1. Can Gigapro do timelapse photography?
2. Is it possible to connect it with medium format camera like: Mamiya AFDIII or DF camera?
thanks for your help...

Thanks greg! I find the 200-400 sits okay on it but it feels to heavy for the rig. But to be honest, I kept worrying that it might not hold for long.
The 300mm did sit great on it.
at one point I paused the pano to go back and repeat a frame and by mistake gave a slight jerk, not much to actually report but found out that it put further shooting of rows and columns out of whack. It assumed the position where I paused as the final position for the row and kept capturing a whole lot half images. Gotcha's
I was wondering how you manage to get the arca swiss contraption to replace the one provided. I am not convinced with the one provided. The camera is not stable on it. Lot of movement when the camera and lens is mounted.
Infact, you would need to stabilize the lens and have it mounted to the epic rather than the camera.
Whats your solution to this issue?
cheers

You have ordered the Gigapan Epic Pro?
It was announced only available only in May, no?
If so, what do you think about it?

Another update on the Epic Pro. They only ship it with the charger for the USA.
Is is an email I recieved:
Hello Andy,
Thank you for your interest in GigaPan!
re: I plan to order the Gigapan Epic Pro and would like to know if the charger for the battery is compatible with the European electrical power system.
The charger operates at U.S.A. 110 volts, so you would need to purchase a voltage converter to make this compatible in your country.
Due to the fact that we ship to a number of countries, the recharger does not come with adaptor accessories. You can purchase a USA to European Plug Adapter/Voltage Converter in your home country and these are also obtained through a number of on-line retail outlets
If you have further questions, please let me know.
Thank you,
Alicia

This is interesting, because many other competitors on the market sell their chargers with a voltage range from 110 - 250 volts. Should there ever be a problem with the device they will probably put it on the wrong charger used. Time will tell if they sell enough Epic Pro's and change their policy.

There is a Gigapan reseller in the UK now - I wonder what specification of charger they offer with their Gigapan Epic heads?:

there is an video update, which shows how to improve the lousy quality of the epic.
it seems they have really no lesson learned since the beta phase of the very first gigapans.

It's the standard charger shipped by GigaPan. Yes, for now it is a USA 2 pin plug but it is dual voltage so works fine in europe with either an adaptor plug or you can simply cut the USA plug off and wire on your own EU/UK plug.
We've highlighted this issue to GigaPan so hopefully soon the shipments will come supplied with a charger that has UK/EU plugs already fitted.
BTW, we've sold all our units we had but more are on their way!

thinking of buying this. What about a steady tripod. What do people recommend? Also, anyone know of a European supplier (France)?
thanks.

Just wanted to state that I used the link above for the French website (http://magasin.skivr.com/materiel/rotul … gapan.html). They sent it next day to arrive on the Saturday, at no extra cost to standard delivery. A very friendly and efficient service. Also, I love the pano head. Works great and is very easy to use. Shame it does not have some built in memory to remember camera/lens profiles, other than that so far so good.

i think i'll finish to buy one too, quite soon... ;-)
