OK to bypass Install of APP 2.0.6 trial and use shortcut to .exe?

I'm evaluating the 64-bit trial.

I had to re-install Win7-64, and thought I'd try having a shortcut to the APP .exe rather than doing the actual install. Seems to work fine.

Are there disadvantage(s) to bypassing the install using:
AutopanoPro_x64_206.exe

Am I "out smarting myself" and possible "shooting myself in the foot"?

I have encountered a lot of BugSplats, and perhaps that could partly or mainly be due to bypassing the installer.

to be honest, I dont understand your question.
download beta, doubleclik and install it...
what is "bypassing the install"?

Erm... you re-installed the OS but not the previously installed software? How is that possible?!? Reinstalling Windows should wipe the registry and application data folders! Also, any wise person will always do a clean install...

Or maybe I don't get the question as well.

i think he uses a copy of AP folder, saved from windows' last installation, without re-installing AP

That could work but he will need to register again. All settings are stored in registry.
Some DLL will also be needed ( most of time these are provided in the system, but not always )

Re: OK to bypass Install of APP 2.0.6 trial and use shortcut to .exe?

I re-installed the o/s in C:, and APP remains on another drive. I have an Intel SSD (160gb G2) partition with 32gb Win7 o/s partition, 20gb WinXp partition, and 98gb partition for apps and work-files.

APP is installed at
X:\MmTools\AutopanoPro
and usable by the Win7 partition.

The "work" partition also has .dng's and .jpg's for the current "active" projects I'm working on. Once I get done with a project, I archive it on a 1.5tb drive and remove from the SSD.

Anyway, the APP trial seems "self-contained" in that it apparently creates all the registry entries it needs even without an install. I have written freeware apps like that such as they don't need an installer, and are still registry based.

I suppose my thinking was that by avoiding a re-install, I would be less likely to disturb settings. And I just asked the question to check.

Didn't need to register again ... it just worked. I did do a re-install, as I've encountered enough BugSplats that I thought perhaps that might reduce the crashes.

At one point, I had three different installations of Win7600 Enterprise trial installed on different drives and different partitions, to check how different configurations worked. All could use a single install of APP, rather than having to have done installs on each o/s. Now that the enterprise trial is expiring, I've actually installed Win-7-Pro-64.
