Calibrating and profiling monitor

My OptixXR and EZColor is on the verge of becoming absolute, especially with 64 bit win 7. It a shame, but there is no driver for win 7. If someone is interested I'll sell it.
Now my question is. What can you guys recommend for replacement? I don't do any other device profiling anymore, but monitor.
Thank you!

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Hi Adam,

I think the DTP94 is still the best, for monitor only, otherwise the iOne2 is good. but it also depends on the monitor you are using. If you are using wide-gamut monitors, you may need a special version of the iOne2 from the Monitor manufacture (as in a relabeled but different firmware).

Next spet up is the iOne Pro sold in the Xtreeme kit now from X-rite

good luck

Henrik

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Do you mean EyeOne Display2?
I hate to let OpitxXR go, but when I'll get 64 bit PC I wont be able to use it anymore.
What about Spyder 3 Elite?

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

I suggest you give it a try to this tool:

http://www.argyllcms.com

It is a high-quality free calibrating suite. I used it from gnu/linux (amd64) and from windows (only 32bits, but the binaries should works as well on 64bits system).

It is command-line only tool, but there are some third-party GUI:

http://www.digifab.com/ArgyllCMSGUI
http://hoech.net/dispcalGUI

which work on all platforms. Hope this helps.

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

I omites to say that the results with Argyll are far better than the ones using the original software of the EyeOne Display2 we have at our photoclub. For example, we are able to calibrate our beamer with Argyll, but not with the original software (it fails when building the profil).

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

What's "beamer"? Projector?
This is interesting and I'll try it. Does it contain driver for dpt94?

yeah - it's kind of crazy and definetely not Scotties teleportation device ...
it's a european pseudoanglizism like handy, which is in fact a mobile

a beamer is a projector

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Exactly how good is this software?
Which GUI is better?
Don't worry about your English. I wish I knew French that well as you do English, even though I had it in high school for 4 years.
Thank you!

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Argyllcms is really a very good software. You can use a large number of patch (thousands, if you want), to have very accurate profiles. You have access to a large number of parameters.

About the GUI, I prefer dispcalGUI (it is written in python wink), but it can only calibrates a monitor, not scanner nor printers.

As I said, it is able to profile a projector; the original software coming with our probe fails when it generates the profile!

I have problem with this software.
It cannot find my dtp94. It is looking at COM1 and it is on USB. How can I change it?

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Try to use the dispcal command-line program, not from the GUI... Look at the documentation about com port:

http://www.argyllcms.com/doc/dispcal.html#c

Hope you will be able to use it.

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Thank you again, but it doesn't look good so far.
No matter what I do it cannot find my DTP94 and as a matter of fact it cannot find my current monitor profile also.
I'm running out of options here.
Please take a look

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

Did you try to launch dispcal utility (not the GUI) with the -? option?

Re: Calibrating and profiling monitor

The problem is solved. I didn't know that I have to install Argyll DTP94 driver.
I'm trying to calibrate now.
Let you know how it goes.

Yeah, it's good.
I think I like this program. However, I have to learn how it works.
I saw online documentation, but cannot find it now. Can you post a link?
Merci!
