[APP 2.0.3] WinXP SP3 , Mac OS10.6 - Problem in "Browse Folder"

Hi Guys.
First of all: I like APP so much!!- You really did a great job. But there are some things that should get even better wink.

The Problem i had:

I have a Directory with Images form the last two weeks including multiple panos. All the images were renamed automatically and so they all have the same Date for the last edit (The shooting date/time is still correct in the exif) When i take the Standard-"Browse-Folder" Configuration (Av. Nr. : 5 , Max. Time laps: 120 sec.) to look up for panos i get hundreds of groups (there are about 1100 pics in the folder) . Some Groups have only one pic, other groups have more pics, which were taken over a longer time laps than the configuration allows. And this longer time laps is also shown at the left lower corner of the group. For example 22min.
Does APP not compare the photos by their shhooting time?

I had the same problem with APP2.0.0 and APP2.0.2 on Mac OS10.6

Re: [APP 2.0.3] WinXP SP3 , Mac OS10.6 - Problem in "Browse Folder"

In the past, browse worked differently.

Doing some experiments, it seems that Browse only cares about the time between images, not the number of images in a group on APG V2.0.3 Vista 64

The max number per group seems to be unused.

BTW, the time parameter is between images in a group, not between the start and end of the group.  So if you take 60 images, each one minute later than the previous one, and set a limit of 120 seconds, you will get one group that lasts about an hour.

The thing I don't like about this is that if I shoot RAW, I can take up to 9 images before I fill the buffer.  So I have 9 images (say) 5 seconds apart, then a 90 second delay to clear the buffer...

Perhaps APG could add the number of shots to fill the buffer, and two delays -- one for when the buffer is full, and one for when the buffer is not full.  Then it could use a leaky bucket algorithm to determine which time delay should be used?

That is, each shot fills the bucket (time to empty buffer / number of shots in buffer) and the bucket is emptied by the delay between shots.

Thus, if I say it takes 120 seconds to empty the buffer, and the buffer holds 10 shots (to make the math easy) each image adds 12 seconds to the bucket.  If I shoot at a rate of one shot per second, then when I take 10 shots, the bucket has (10 * 12 sec) - (10 * 1 sec) or 110 seconds of data.  We know each image adds 12 seconds, so you can't have another shot in 1 second.  But when the buffer gets full, sometimes I will wait until it gets empty (and sometimes not) so the delay to the next picture could be 120 seconds plus whatever time it takes me to realize that the buffers empty.  We may want a longer delay if the buffer fills up.  Thus, we need two delays, or a sliding delay based on how full the buffer is (say the average time between images plus the time to empty the buffer)

Hi.
Thanks for the Answer.

I cant really follow you what you are talking about.... I also shoot in Raw. And when i make a DRI i often have 3 or more Pics with the same Timecode and autopano never had problems to come up with that automatically. What buffer are you talking about? The Camerabuffer? I never thought about that, because that was never a relevant thing in my case because my buffer takes more than 30 RAWS, and the the CF is much faster than me at turning the camera on the tripod to the next frame.

But there are Groups with 5 Pics at a duration of more than  20mins. although the time laps is set to 3secs.
And there are many groups with only one picture in it.
I never had this Problem before, and cant figure out why this is.

In Mac OS 10.6 I also noticed some graphical problems in the Preferences-Panels (at drop downs and by the Hep-Buttons)

The buffer on my camera (EOS 5D) holds 9 RAW per spec, but it will usually write to flash between shots, so I can get one or two more RAWs in a burst.

It's always a bit complicated to explain this part of the browse dialog box. I tried to update the documentation with a more clear explaination :
