Hardware Controller For Merlin/orion - And Later For Other Heads

Hi!

Last year i announced a controller-device a friend of mine developed then.
Now after struggeling and at least abandon Bluetooth he made it. It´s finished
and actually in a state of undergoing minor improvements - so it will be available in September.

It´s a handheld-device with the size of a Marlboro package, provides a touch-display, can be
fed with presets via USB and is completey variable by using a comes with a PC-program to have total access.
It´s plugged straight into the Merlin´s telephone-jack and works. It uses the Merkin´s batteries.

It´s touch-display gives imediate access to Sphere-, Angle- and Mosaic- modes. Start- and end-points for mosaic can be navigated easily using the display´s touch-panel.

The website of Josef´s is somewhat weak - so i put some data on my server. Let´s start with the user-manual.
You can find it here:

http://www.klausesser.de/Manual_Panorama_GB.pdf (7,5MB)
http://www.klausesser.de/Datenblaetter.pdf

later more - pictures and so on.

best, Klaus

I've seen it already working at the pano-meeting in cologne.

It is a nice little device, perfect for all who just want to use a plug&play-box and not to be bothered with the setup struggles of linux and bluetooth or macs or windoof.

Hmm I like a nice simple device, but the big question is.... is it a nice price wink

(by simple, I mean that the complexity is in the simplicity)

It´s built by order in very low numbers - so it can´t be cheaper i guess.
Nobody expects to get rich this way . . roll
And yes - it´s really elaborated. Lots of brain and skills in it.
And VERY easy to handle.
Josef will implement scripting-abilities to feed APG.

I think it´s a very good device - i use it for 3 weeks now after Josef changed some minor things like the moving-direction (left arrow moved to the right).

And a very important additional point: Josef is absolutely reliable - and a fine engineer.
He developed and built digital scanner-cameras at 3M when early digital components came available.

best, Klaus

This device looks very interesting for people who don't want to hack Nokia and install software. It is a ready-to-use solution.

Re: Hardware Controller For Merlin/orion - And Later For Other Heads

question to manual, p7 Panorama mode:

Move the head by the 4 arrow keys into the low left position were the panorama should start

Am I free in choosing my starting point? lets say horizontal line farest left point or center zenit position?

on crouded places I more or less always have to pause the panoshooting waiting for people freeing the scene (to avoid half cutted people ;-)...
is a pause button available?

and in consequence (I'm missing this with papywizzard solution) an option to redo last image before moving to next position and redo last image after moving to next imageposition would be on my wishlist.

the device itself is for me a big choice (no notebook to carry with me; I can leave the scene alone; more freedom with higher poles etc.)

Liebe Gruesse,
Georg

With Papywizard you can pause and resume and jump forwards and backwards in the shooting sequence as often as you wish.

I know... I use pw currently with a win xp netbook. This described hardwarecontroller as I unerstand is a replacement for pw + host where pw runs on. And reading manual shows me that pausing is not included currently.

Hi Andrew!

Pausing is included of course - you can pause, resume or go back.
Repeating a sequence also is no problem. For a focus-stackung test i run the same pano 6 times with changing the focus each time and combined them in PhotoAccute.

The description really is weak - so is the design of the papers and the site. I told Josef sometihing should be re-done in designing the papers.

later more - best to you, Klaus

Hi Georg!

Yoeu can start shooting wherever you want in angle- and mosaic mode. In sphere mode you have to start wirth the down-row - i´m not quite shure.
Eas i told before: the description´s design is awful - one should not leave visual design to be done by engineers . . . winktonguecool
