Hi Paul, Fréderic and all,
Actually, I have initiated a small study on this technology who is quite extended now for printers and Nas Hard disk etc...
This is quite promising, but the problem is the power supply at the Merlin level... quite high drain to be measured
The Hama isn't not the only solution but is very interesting, I have retained it for my test and the hardware is allready ordered.
Several way's exist:
- BT for the Merlin and USB/Wifi for the Camera. (the cheapest way ...and for me the most promising)
- BT for all (similar to the new TA BT interface)
- USB/Wifi for all (Quite expensive)
I will come back with some conclusions probably end of August.![]()

Hi all,
I have now received the Hama WUSB starter kit ...
I have not a lot of time at the present to conduct a full test of the kit.
Please find here my "very" first impressions:
1. The WUSB Hama (and clones!) is at this moment only availlable for Windows XP and Vista , not for Unix/Linux nor MAC OS !
2. The "pairing" of the 2 components (Host and Client) is very "painfull" ! In comparison the BT pairing is a dream ...
3. The effective covering is strongly limited to maximum 5 to 6 meters, this can be helpfull for "Studio" photo work but not in the field.
4. In very good conditions (5 to 6 meters, without obstacles):
- the transmission speed is very similar to a Wifi connection.
- you can use live view, tethered shooting (all fonctions are possible just like a true wired connection including picture transfert to the PC, full remote control of the camera when capable ... etc ...)
- can act as "Canon Wireless File Transmitter WFT" or "Nikon Wireless Transmitter".
Temporary conclusions:
- it is really a cheap alternative to original wireless systems in a studio !
- not really usable in the field
- limited to Windows world (will certainly be extended later...)
- can be adapted for the PapyMerlin system by using the 12 volts Merlin power supply (via PSU 12 to 5 V convertor, exemple car battery USB supply for MP3) but very limited field coverage !
That's it !

Check this out... USB over Wireless with Wireless USB HUB!
http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage. … _Id=505320
i tried both, WISAIR USB-Wireless and Wireless USB HUB from Belkin (12V DC) with Nikon D300 and Nikon Camera Control and sofortbildapp. Belkin work on longer range and use Software USB-Wireless Driver for Mac and Windows. Belkin Wireless USB HUB can connect more USB Devices such as Merlin and Camera over USB.
