So, I think about:
Canon EOS 400D
Canon Zoom Lens Ultrasonic FF 70-210mm 1:3.5-4.5 (multiplier about 1.6 I think)
pano: 360x160/170/180 (I know 210mm hits the merlin with the standard L-bracket (TA)....so 180 not possible...)

"non-partial panos" . . . what does that mean? A sphere?
Using the 70mm setting of your zoom and also using bracketing would mean some hundred shots i guess - even if you generate a preset-file . . . .

Regarding you can present a sphere only via a browser - why THAT much resolution?
10000x5000px really is enough - for high-rez spheres to show with KR multirez viewer maybe more for zooming in.
But using 180 or even 210mm would mean a dramatical overkill in resolution - and wold be hardly  presentable as an interactive panorama.
