Hi Awelker,
They are others sources but "same problems" ... backorders, out of stocks, etc ... ![]()
Just wait or order in another contry if urgent (ie. UK) !![]()

I might have found a company with them in stock in the US, I'll post a url when I know for sure.
SkyWatcherUSA said that they will have them back in stock the first or second week in July.
I see people selling them with and without a tripod. Is the tripod worth paying for? I already have my good tripod, but is it a good idea to have a dedicated one for the Merlin?

If teh price were the same or within $10-20, then take the tripod. Its entirely OK, it has 3/8" post so its ready for the merlin, and its an OK tripod when used without extension. Since your stitching things together a less than gitzto tripod seems ok to me...
Heck, I use the merlin on a 15-18' light stand and get good panos, so while your mileage may vary, its an ok $20 tripod...

I currently have a slik 700dx, its solid as a rock. I didn't know if it would be better to attach the Merlin to the head on the tripod, or just to the base. I'm looking at a $60 to $100 more for a Merlin that comes with a tripod, Imported from UK, or if this company has one in stock.

that makes it much clearer, it isnt a $60 to $100 tripod by any stretch...
Save the money and get the head only
