For the next version of autopano (1.4 branch), fisheye support is planned, you all know that. It's already working for 90% case, but that's not enough for me.
So I need more testing case and I need different kind of fisheye for my nikon to test that (full frame fisheye and circular fisheye).
For full frame, I'll buy the Nikon DX 10.5, but what you advise me for a circular fisheye for nikon ? (Sigma 8mm, nikon 8 mm, peleng ?)

I have a Nikon 10.5mm, Sigma 8mm EX DG and Nikon 8mm/f2.8 AIS (all used on a Nikon D200).
The Nikon 8mm is one of Nikon's legendary lenses, far superior over the Sigma 8mm. Truly the best for handhold action panoramas involving many people. The most prominent user of this lens is Jook Leung (http://www.360vr.com/).
Buyers beware: The older AI version has a different coating and is prone to flare, which is a showstopper for VR purposes. So e.g. do not buy this one:

If you want, I can provide you with test images of all three lenses. Just tell me what subject would be best for your purposes (I guess architectural with a lot of straight lines?). I can also provide different sequences, e.g. 4+2 (4 around, 1 up, 1 down) and 3 (60° oblique technique) for the circular fisheyes.
I am really looking forward having fisheye support in APP. With that and all the other improvements planned you will have a real winner at hand. (Just as a sidenote: Realviz Stitcher just introduced fisheye support and failed miserably for the 10.5mm, so there is a lot of opportunities for the competition).

I'll be definitively interested into a set of panoramas done with the nikon 8mm (one panorama 4+2 pict, one with 3 pict @ 60°, etc). The subject can be anything, lot's of delails, or just few of them. That's the major criteria. Straight lines have to stay straight for any subject :-)
I think I'm buying the nikon 10.5 to be able to check full frame fisheye support and the sigma 8mm to check the circular fisheye support.

hadron, how does the old Nikon 8mm compaires to the new Nikon 10.5 in terms of image quality?

The 8mm is comparable to the 10.5, with the biggest advantage that a full sphere can be shot handheld (the 10.5mm needs a tripod/monopod for 6 images around).

I have ordered the Nikkor 10.5 today. Never used it though.
I have read reports on the net that ? in particular landscapes ? can be shot handheld (6+2 photos). During a hike I hope to be able to use my Leki walking stick as a platform for shooting the full circle. Do you think it will be possible to stitch them corrctly (with APP 1.4)?

I use a full-frame fisheye with the lightest Manfroto tripod I found (714B Digi) and a Panosaurus panohead or a monopod and no panohead.
For a fisheye I bielieve a strong/rigid/heavy tripod is not mandatory (provided one leaves the camera strap around his neck, it's even possible to not spread out the legs fully: no visible legs = no nadir shot!)
Using the monopod and no pano-head, I found holding the monopod in one hand and the camera in the other hand (the lens just laying on the pod near the nodal point) I can shot 3 horizontal views and stitch them very well (covered horizontal FOV is larger than 200° but less than 300°.) For 360° this don't work very well (or I'm not skilled enough?)

I really hope 360° stitching will be possible with Autopano Pro using handheld shot full-frame fisheye images. Carrying a tripod + panohead on a ten day mountain trip in the Alps is not something I look forward to. Then again: I would do anything to get my mountain views on the web in VR!
If handheld fails, I will consider a KingPano panohead (http://www.kingpano.com ) for its simplicity of design and firm pricing. A 360Precision (http://www.360precision.com ) is just way too expensive.

Speaking of very wide angle lenses, I have a AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm 1:4 G ED lens that I use on my D2X. On my last vacation I took many panos with the lens set at it's widest position 12mm (approx 18mm equiv for 35mm) with about a half frame overlap. I am finding that APP cannot do a good job of stitching these panos, I get ghosting in the image. I have tried the latest beta version of APP for Mac with the same results. Should APP handle this? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm using an 18 mm (27 equivalent) and i make some 360/180 once in a while. APP takes them with no major issue.
I've been helping a friend in using a Nikon D200 & a 10.5 Nikkor fisheye. Once de-fished with Capture NX, and i guess DXO, but it needs to be confirmed, Pictures where stitched with APP, very nicely.
APP doesn't directly handles ultra-wide angles and fish-eyes, but there are workaround using a good de-rawiser who take care of barrel and pincushion distortions.
I guess that using also will do fine.

The plugins can be slow for big work-flows but they do the job.

I just downloaded file Y.zip to your FTP. Included are the sources images I used for a World Wide Panorama "transportation" entry:

Olympus E-330 camera, Zuiko 8mm fisheye. EXIF data look correct, focal length multiplier is 2 (equ. to 16 mm full-frame fisheye.)

Alexandre, I also do pictures with Canon 350D + Peleng. I have many handheld made, but also I have done with tripod and Manfrotto 303SPH head. And since I am anxiously waiting for the fisheye support for APP, if you need help testing or pictures, let me know.
