Shooting on the Merlin with my Nikkor 18-55mm kit zoom lens using manual focus I get focus creep at higher +/- pitch values, the lens retracting and extending under its own weight.
I believe this is common with zoom lenses when you point them up or down?
Anyone got a simple solution?

Does this zoom have a rotating ring, or translating one?

I take velcro to stop the lens creeping out or in
Olympus lens: rotating ring

Thanks for the tip Paul.
Another problem I have is the weight of the lens tipping the whole camera/lens downwards and I'm only using a short lightweight zoom lens or the Nikkor 10.5mm and Sigma 8mm lenses.
Does anyone have this problem - and a good solution?
I think a larger mounting platform for the camera might help?

I don't understand the question.

Sorry for my frenglish! I was asking if you have to turn the zoom to change it, or to move it forward/backward?

The 18-55 is just 265 gram (http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/nik … p6_vr_n15/)
Are you talking about a mounting problem on the arm or a "Merlin Disk" problem ?
If mounting the camera on the arm is the problem just add some "postman elastics parts" between the camera and rail.
grtz!

You mean the camera slipping on the vertical arm? It´s a . . we call it "Rutsch-Kupplung" . . . that´s two discs breaking each other not to slip inm the vertical mount. This discs wear out - i have the same problem: the vertical arm sometimes slips a bit.
I guess the discs have to be renewed or the central-screw has to be tightened!?
(don´t know how to explain it correctly in english . . )
best, Klaus
P.S.: in my case it´s because i always move the vertical arm to zero by hand - that weakenes the breaking discs i guess . .

NEVER do this !
Use the Merlin controller in the second hole (AUX) and direct it to the correct position.....

Thanks Frank I'll try elastic bands.
I think part of the issue is that I cannot tighten the camera screw enough because I hacked the plastic part of the large knob off the screw on the dove tail rail (to gain more clearance) so the lever mechanism doesn't work anymore.

Andrew, find another/better camera screw or go to a DIY shop to find a 1/4 thread screw.
