Where is Merlins vertical arm when you look from behind the cam on the Merlin? Right or left ?

Right. Camera handgrip uppermost when camera mounted in portrait orientation.

crown mod ready, original crown removed and replaced with custom crown
material:
- 1 disk POM, made on own lathe
- 1 rail aluminium profile 10x20mm 165mm
- 1 quenox qr01 qick release
- 3 screws, 2 nuts, 1 slotnut
the quick release is npp adjustable moving back or forth inside the rails slot
next step: engrave a scale on rail for correct npp setting

Having done all this how much did you gain on the 'A' dimension?

just compare the pics
left crown mod: rail behind bubble
right case mod (moved arm, claudevh?): rail in front of bubble
