[Merlin/Orion] Extension module

DukeNukeIt made me think of something... What about an extension module which could be pluged in the second RJ12 socket, and add new features?

The idea is to make the same design: adding another µ-controller, also connected to the TTL serial line, which could listen to another axis number (yaw = 1, pitch = 2). Then, adding some com. protocol based on the Merlin/Orion one, we could add new axis (zoom, focus...), or trigger the camera for new Merlin/Orion heads, or even make a auto-leveling system, using some electronic leveler.

Just an idea roll I won't have time to design such module, but will be pleased to help and make the Papywizard driver wink

Re: [Merlin/Orion] Extension module

Frederic,

We should think about "USB to WIFI" techno, this will be more easy to use "dedicated camera soft" ...

Re: [Merlin/Orion] Extension module

You mean wifi-to-usb? Control the camera through its usb port (slave), from a wifi connexion?

I will first have to find the way to make an adhoc wifi connexion (point-to-point, rather than conncting to an access point) from different plateforms...

don't know if you've seen this but perhaps pappy wizard could work with it for exposure and focus braceting. you can also write the images to the laptop so perhaps app could be stitching while shooting is still going.

Re: [Merlin/Orion] Extension module

really - would it be clever to blow up the whole thing to a kind of "swiss army knife"?

I mean: Papywizard is a wonderful tool on a device like the N800 to shoot mosaic and spheres - heving it in the camera-bag or even in a pocket.
Adding too much features could make it less reliable and straight i´m afraid.

Combining with a laptop/powerbook would be a clear two-way team - leaving features home when you don´t really need them.

Papy works so great now . . !!smile

best, Klaus

value judgement i guess. i may look at it differently because i want to do pole panormas and perhaps use the same stuff when shooting from my tethered blimp. not as easy to change settings on the camera and its good to know you have what you want before you pull down a 50' pole or bring down a blimp past some trees. this also takes care of the video downlink as well.  dslr remote already has a dll that allows other programs to fire the shudder and adj apeture and shudder time.

"Overview

DSLR Remote Pro includes an interface library called DSLRRemoteLib.dll which can be used by other applications to control DSLR Remote Pro. Also included is a simple command line application called DSLRRemoteTest.exe which can be used to control DSLR Remote Pro from a command prompt or a batch file. For example a batch file could be written to take a series of photos using different apertures and shutter speeds to bracket the exposure." from their website

i can understand liking the simplicity of just the n800. i don't see why adding a capabilty takes that away
