Do any of you know what serial protocol the Merlin/Orion/Teletrack head uses? Is it the same as a Meade, Celestron, other? Is the serial connector an RS-232?
I am considering controlling the head from my Macintosh using one of the numerous applications for scopes. I can't find anything about the serial protocol and figured you guys here must know.

Hi John,
You can find the main command of the protocole here:
http://trac.gbiloba.org/papywizard/wiki … e#Hardware
Unfortunally, the bus is not RS232; it uses TTL levels (0 / 5V instead of +12 / -12V), and mix RD and WR (half duplex only). Look for the posts names Interface; you will find all the answers.
It seems that the protocole looks the same as other instruments, but I don't know exactly which ones. Some, here, where able to use standard software to drive the Merlin/Orion head.

Hi John,
The Merlin use the same protocol as the Sky-Watcher Multifunction and Supa Trak ( very similar to the EQmod driver but simplified)
A Supa Trak "Ascom driver" exist and has been developped by Robin Glover:

I have allready tried but without success till now.
You can also contact him at the "BBC Sky at Night" forum:

If you can use this Ascom driver, please let-us know how you did-it !
Thanks
