Way to release Fuji S2?

I am seriously considering getting an Orion head, but one worry is having an automatic shutter release.  The Fuji S2, though it can be controlled over Firewire from a computer, does not have either an electronic release connector OR an IR sensor.  The only method of remote release is with a mechanical cable release that you screw into the shutter release button.  Very "old school" that way.

I am trying to think of a way to make a hybrid release that could be triggered by the Orion/Merlin head's 5V (?) camera trigger.  Any ideas of how difficult it would be to rig a solenoid that would push a cable release when activated by the signal from the head?  Any such that already exist in some form?

Thanks,

John

Re: Way to release Fuji S2?

If the shutter button as an ols standard nut, you can find little devices using a coil to push the shutter button; you will just need to get the power from the Merlin (using the second connector), and power this coil through the Merlin trigger contact. Depending of the current used by the coil, you may need to add a little relay (the opto-coupler is may not be powerfull enough).

This may provide some ideas?:

I think you may find other kits by Googling around for 'aerial phototography' and 'kite aerial photography' and 'kap'.

You've inspired me to try and find a solution for my P5100 compact which also lacks both wired and IR remote.
