Hi everyone
I am new here and to panoramas so please be patient with me as I build up my knowledge
I am most interested in taking interiors, buildings as usual, but I do want to do interiors of cars, boats and planes etc
Has anyone used AutoPano for this particular reason, I would love to hear of any successes or problems and how you got around them
Thanks
Ian

What camera are you planning to use?
Do you have a pano head and tripod - if yes, what make/model?

Hi mediavets, you were quick in reply, thanks and appreciated
Nikkon D90, Nikkor 10.5 NodalNinja NN3
Tripod is whatever will fit in
I do have a budget for new or different equipment so if you have any suggestions on a better set up please let me know

mediavets I just saw you use the merlin head and papywizard, I was looking at that and wondering if I could use it to set up inside a cockpit and let it run rather than working inside all cramped and getting in the way, have you tried that ?

Yes, you could do that - bear in mind that the nadir footprint is rather larger than you get with the NN3.
No I haven't tried it but there's no reason I can think of why it would not work.
You would I think need to modify the dovetail mount on the Merlin to be able to mount the D90 camera at the correct NPP. This will give you some idea of what I mean:

i can use a different lens if that would work better and take more pictures to get rid of the footprint rather than getting it in every view with a fisheye, that wouldn't be a problem, my main comment is does the software stitch it well

Hmm, general question, general answer: parallax, high dynamic range (interior vs view out the window). You can search the forum for those keywords. Hardware-wise you absolutely need a panoramic head and a fisheye lens.
Footprint is not an issue. Using a fisheye for not-high-resolution interior shots will make your life a lot easier than if you used a more wide angle lens. Removing the tripod is easy, also search the forums for that.

Hi drslony, i am planning on blocking the windows out before shooting with some covers so there won't be any problem with seeing what is outside, and i would like quite a high resolution to show some quality

It's not about the lens, it is about positioning the centre of the lens over the vertical axis of rotation - check out the links I added to my previous post.
Taking more pictures, or using a different lens, won't do much to reduce the nadir foot print.
Nikkor 10.5mm FE is fine lens for what you want to do.
Yes, panos shot with the Nikkor 10.5mm FE on the merlin head stitch just as well as those shot using NN3/5 head - so long as the NPP is correct.

You will have more than enough resolution using a D90 with the Nikkor 10.5 FE for excellent quality fulscreen display of 360x180 panos on the Web.

Mediavets, I had a look at the link and I see what you mean about getting the Nadir correct, especially at the short distances I am wanting to pan
I see that you use one, has it been reliable and strong to your needs over time or are there any weak parts you know off before I assess one
I have a full machine shop and can manufacture an adaptor to suit the task, I see others have had a go with some success, and yes from what I can see they are taking the mick at £90 they asked for at your local engineers
I have ordered a Merlin head and once I have seen it in the flesh I will know what modifications are needed
By the way I know Isleham as I used to live in Soham before moving back down to Cornwall

I've not had it that long - but, yes, it has been fine. Frederic the author of Papywizard has owned one longer than anyone perhaps and AFAIK he's had no particular problems.
The first one delivered to me had missing battery holders, the replacement has a duff bubble level but that doesn't bother me as it's not really well placed to use with a camera mounted anyway.
I think the general opinion is that it well made - esp. at the price and quite good enough for the job of a robotic head.
Jason in Colorado uses his with a Nikon D200 and a 500mm telephoto lens.

Perhaps you can make one for me and others too?
