Sigma 55-200mm f4.5-5.6 DC | Any good for Landscape Photography ?

I recently purchased an Olympus E-410 with the single lens kit (14-54mm). For my needs and budget its an amazing camera (and worlds apart from my old point n shoot Fuji 9600).

Im trying to achieve a landscape pano thats sharp all over (hyperfocal focusing?) and the sigma has the infinity mark something the Olympus 14-54 lens does not.

So for me the Sigma 55-200 DC looks like a perfect choice.

I know I might be limited with selections being 4/3rds so thought i'd ask you guys n girls.

Does anyone own the lens?
Will it be suitable for said photography?

Before you start shooting of with some serious lenses costing more than some countries, this is just purely fun and a hobby and don't want to get into the rat race for lenses nor do I need to have expensive lenses.

The images are for my personal use and are not for printing on a massive scale. Not be holding any pano exibitions nor producing for any magazine or billboards..  so for me, the sigma is a good price.

The 14-54 does good and produces some amazing shots, but obviously, if I focus on forground the background is out . as you already know.

I've read limited reviews re: the sigma lens and in comparison with the Olympus 40-150, it's a lot cheaper. I'm intrested in the depth of field of the lens, be nice to produce some (amateurish) panos whilst all being in focus.

The extra reach should be good for the family pics and wildlife, as with the 14-54, you always on top of the subject.. scares them off..

Be appreicated for any input you can provide.

Cheers
