Good Day,
I have just received my Nodal Ninja 4 in the post and am busy playing around with it.
I would like your advice on what is the best way to import the photos into Autopano Giga.
Here are my setings and equipment
Canon 500D
Sigma 10-20mm Lens
Nodal Ninja 4 with 30 degree intervals on rotations and 30 degree interval on pitch.
Do i just drag the images into Autopano Giga and hope it works out or what would be the best way to insert the files so that i get the best outcome?
I look forward to your answers.

in windows I always rightclick on the folder and select "Detect panoramas in folder" Works fine for me.

Which focal-length did you use for shooting from your 10-20mm?
Did you set the focal-length which you used for shooting to APG? Guess it uses the EXIfs - does it?
30° yaw and 30° pitch??
What did APG do? How´s the result looking? Can you show it?
best, Klaus

Hi Klaus,
Sorry for the delay, I am shooting out in the middle of nowhere with very little internet connection.
That is actually what i want to know, i shoot at 10mm with 30 yaw and 30 oitch but where can i insert that into Autopano Giga? I am sure that is a really dumb question but i do need help.
I cannot post it right now but my main concern is that the Pano on a day with a clear sky does not know what to do with the photos of just blue sky and i land up with a virtual tour that is not able to look all the way up.

Hi net(off)line ![]()
As Hans wrote, you can use the "Detect pano" function, if you have installed the explorer context comands.
Or you can use the "file - select images" function in the menu.
But at 10mm 30º is definitiv to much, you get a lot of unneeded overlapping.
At 10mm, this lens have 102,4º diagonal FOV, so in portrait orientation it's 56.8º.
You could use a 45º yaw and get 25% overlapping.

Thank you Martin,
I will try that and when i can send through the results.

You will find suggested shooting pattrens for your camera/lens combination here:
http://www.vrwave.com/panoramic-lens-database/sigma/
but where can i insert that into Autopano Giga? I am sure that is a really dumb question but i do need help.
You should check that APG is correctly identifying your lens as a 10mm Stanrad (aka Rectilinear) lens and not as a Fisheye lens. Look at the Group Image properties - see screenshot 1.
If lens type and focal length are not being identified correctly, you can correct that there for this group
Or, if you only shoot with this camera/lens combination then you can force it using the Eidt/settings/Images settings - see screenshpot 2.
I cannot post it right now but my main concern is that the Pano on a day with a clear sky does not know what to do with the photos of just blue sky and i land up with a virtual tour that is not able to look all the way up.
You can force all images into the pano and place the unlinked plan blue sky shots manually using the Yaw/Pitch/Roll tool in the Panorama Editor then hard linking.
Or, you could switch to a fisheye lens when you should be able to avoid the prioblem altogether because the much greater FOV of each image means you should be able to avoid having any featureles images that cannot be linked automatically.
Or, you could invest in a robotic pano mount/head which supports the creation of XML shooting postion data files which can later be used by APG to help place featurless images; such as the Seitz VRDrive2, the T&C Panoneed, or the Panogear/Merlin/orion with Papywizard or the T&C/Panogear Touch controller.

one pattern you might wanna try is to do 2 rotations, one pointing up 50 degrees above horizons, shooting every 60 or 120 degrees, one 10 degrees under the horizon, shooting every 60 degrees. That will close the zenith while still connecting the top row in most situations.
If you can't stitch them, send the to me through dropbox or wetransfer.com.
