AutoPano Giga 3, Gigapan, and Empty Skies ....

I've had a bear of a time dealing with the sky using AutoPano 2.x since there are no features in the sky often times for the software to identify for sitching.  Even so, there should be a way to do this since I'm using a Gigapan head so all the photos are shot in a regular pattern as are the overlaps of each photo.

With AutoPano 3... There is supposed to be better support for motorized heads.  Does AutoPano 3 sitch according to a regular pattern when a motorized head is used?  (I'm assuming it will use the internal algorithms to identify features and improve the stitching process above that of simply stitching the images together as the Gigapan software does....)

It makes a lot of sense to stitch according to features when they are present and according to a regular pattern when they are not (such as when the sky is clear or uniformilly overcast.)

Does v. 3.0 have any improvements in this regard????

Of course, this gets even more complicated when HDR is involved which it usally is since I'm trying to shoot 360x180s......

Thanks,

-Art

Why not try it and see ?

Hmmm....you are shooting 360x180 gigapixel panos with HDR?

Have you managed to produce any results yet that we can see?

How many bracketed exposures do you shoot at each shooting position?

Do you process the bracketed images before stitching?

Of course, as you will already be aware that the Gigapan range of robotic panos heads is not really well suited to shooting 360x180 panos?  That's because it can only shoot a regular matrix of images so overlapping becomes excessive approaching the zenith and nadir.

Afaik the Gigapan writes xml which you can use in APG to import and position the shots. If it doesen´t maybe somebody can generate an xml for you!?
Or a pattern?

Re: AutoPano Giga 3, Gigapan, and Empty Skies ....

autopano is honoring the used grid by using the gigapan import wizzard. Here in past version it gave some issues. dont know if situation is better with 3.0 version. so you also can upload resized jpgs by attaching them to your post here (asuming its not a gigapixelpano wink ) so we can download and test with them to figure out best settings....

No, the GigaPan robotic heads do not explicitly record the shooting position co-ordinates.

On the other hand they can only shoot a regular matrix of images and always in landscape orientation and only in one of a limited number of patterns.

So the Gigapan sticther software - and the Gigapan Import filter in APP/APG - can make use of that 'knowledge' to help place images.
