My workflow shooting spheres with 50mm eq includes fixing the nadir using krpano Convert SPHERE to CUBE droplet to get a down-image. Then I repair the nadir and convert it back to sphere using krpano Convert CUBE to SPHERE droplet.
Technically this works well. Now, by accident I noticed that this back and forth changes the colors, the result is a less vivid pano.
The pano is rendered in APG 3.0 B3 to PSB (from TIFF sources) and krpano convert it to TIFF.
Is there anybody who has ideas about what to do ?

The top one is the PSB from APG. (from TIFF's generated by DXO)
The bottom one is after back/forth to krpano.

Hi
Do you use different color spaces or different bit-depth ?
Color shift is normally when change the color space.

A vital point! In the prefs for the KRPano droplets you can set "fast" as false or true. Use "false".
You also can set it - preferable - to the same format as the input. In this case: .psb.
I never had the colors changed this way.

In the convertdroplets config there is nothing about colorspace.
I have used the default setting:
[Convert SPHERE to CUBE]
cubeformat=CUBE
cubesize=auto
outputformat=tif
tiffcompress=lzw
jpegquality=85
jpegsubsamp=422
jpegoptimize=true
fast=false
I will change the output format to PSB and have look.

I have changed the output format in the convertdroplets.config:
[Convert SPHERE to CUBE]
cubeformat=CUBE
cubesize=auto
outputformat=PSB
[Convert CUBE to SPHERE]
spheresize=auto
outputformat=PSB
Then I ran a roundtrip sphere->cubeface->sphere and voila !
There is no colorshift
Solved. Thanks to Klaus for the tip :)

No, it was the difference between TIFF and PSB.
There probably were several colorspaces defined.
Color shift -> different colorspace and/or bit-depth.
Compression or chroma subsampling should not affect the colors
in a visible range.

@lumelix
okay, so couple of nerdy questions for you then so I can try and get a better handle on things...
"Color shift -> different colorspace and/or bit-depth."
If both the tiff (uncompressed) and the psb are 8-bit, and are both defined with same colourspace - then they should have no colour difference. Is that right?
would the tiffcompress=lzw not have any effect on the colour then?

Hi con
Yes, it should
LZW means lossless compression and with the same color space and bit-depth
the two images should look the same (overall).
But if you handle with 8bit TIFs, you will lose some fine informations from your camera:
Actual DSLRs works with 12bit, so with 8bit, you loose a lot of color fine toning, 4096 times less (2^12).
Most of time, this is visible in blue sky areas. You will see some banding there, not a fine color gradient.
For best results, work with RAW files and convert them with suitable software to 16bit TIF LZW.
For normal use, 24bit JPGs with slight compression are fine too.

Hi
I go to Sphere tu cube and SHOW CONTENT OF THE PACKAGE
In this I find -info.plist -
I open it and change for PSD
but it continues making tiff cube images
I will look for other way

according to krpano documentation the cube to sphere and sphere to cube droplets are based on the tool ktransform and on its docu page psd/psb are also listed as in/output format...
http://www.krpano.com/tools/ktransform/#top
so why not using the ktransform tool directly on command line:
ktransform cube mysourcepanoimage.psd cubesoutputfilename

Wrong place - go to KRPanotools folder and open "convertdroplets.config"!
