iPad Retina Display

Hi!

Realized i put it into the wrong theme before!

We face the issue that on the new iPad panoramas look rather bad compared to their look on desktops.
Here somd examples:
Desktop:
www.360impressions.de/Grecopan.

Picture 0) Screenshot from my MacBook Pro showing the panorame from our site in Safari.
Picture 1) the same panorama on iPad"3".
picture 2) the same panorama on iPad"3" inside the app of "Der Spiegel".

Resoultion of the panorama in all cases is 10000x5000px.

As we can see it´s looking rather badly on the iDevics compared to the desktop. My 17" MacBook has 1920x1200px. The iPad has 2048x1536px.

So that´s a bit irritating.

best, Klaus

Re: iPad Retina Display

Found a thread with Hans Nyberg giving a statement relatd to this issue:

http://www.panoguide.com/forums/qna/10501/?page=2

The question is: how can we get PTP to generate tablet-faces in 1400px instead of 1024px?
Tried to find it in the templates . . no way.

best, Klaus

Re: iPad Retina Display

Hi Klaus,

One thing to do is to ask Kolor to put an extra option in PTP just below the "Mobile devices tour" checkmark.
I would call the option "generate all common resolutions".
In code it would ask the device for its reslution and then present it with the best resolution for that device.

"qualities and to be frank it looks like you made the pano using a cellphone......horrible. "

I do not think Klaus used a cell phone Ed.., but I can see where you are coming from... The stitching needs fixing up in parts and the ISO was probably way wrong but I wouldn't say it looked horrible... But I guess you are only trying to help in giving your advice.. wink

Are we now going to search for each others stitching errors and post them here?

But thanks nevertheless - i didn´t see that error and will correct it.

btw.: i guess there are errors in many people´s panos - sometimes that´s inavoidable. I never had any idea to look for
them and i definitely never had any idea to make them public . . .

Re: iPad Retina Display

Oh Ed you made me laugh.. Yes, you are right Klaus, but I only do it to wind you up..... What I don't get is the fact that Ed can suggest you captured the pano using cell phone and saying the pano was horrible, and he can also dig at you for your lousy stitching yet you say nothing to him... It must be a Destiny thing.. LOL.....
BTW, have you ever watched the movie Grumpy Old Men ... I think they should have contacted you for inspiration.... LOL.....

Anyway... not to worry... if you get stuck, Ed has offered to pop round to show you his tricks...

Re: iPad Retina Display

it simple:

panotour 1.7. ... Use final release of the 1.0.8.14 version of krpano player (1)
panotour 1.8.0 ... is based on update 11 of krpano version 1.0.8.14 (2)

an klaus writes in krpano docuementation about multiresolution on idevices with krpano 1.0.8.14:

•Multiresolution - it's currently simply not possible do this with HTML5/CSS and a good performance! Beside of the peformance there is no real memory control and the Safari browser is very buggy when using much memory

(3)

BUT Klaus at krpano was asked too for support the new resolution an on March 2012 release of krpano 1.0.8.14 "IT" was added:
http://www.krpano.com/forum/wbb/index.p … #post36591

so the statement "devices="iPad+Retina" is available now (at krpano 1.0.8.14 update 12). Maybe - I down know it - this krpano is included in panotour 1.8 (source link (2)  Gerald is talking around March 2012 about krpano Update 11 and 12. Maybe the update 12 is already included in panotour 1.8 ...

so at least with panotour 2 (@photokina) this krpano 1.0.8.14 update 12 (or even newer, maybe krpano version 1.0.9 - embedded video-pano... - should be included....)

What you don´t get is that Ed´s kind of communicating simply shows some eloquence . . . .

Re: iPad Retina Display

Oh yes.. I see that... Ed does display eloquence in his communication skills...  Such a pity you do not understand his point....

"Whow Klaus, that is an oversight.....not a little stitch error but a major one.....difficult to stitch stuff......no real guidance to stick control points on....some manual labor in order in the CP editor window Klaus, so don't waste time shooting the messager (a sometimes usefull practice abandonned ages ago) but fire up the Mac and restitch. But since no El Greco's were harmed, not such a big deal either."

Hi Georg!

I made http://www.360impressions.de/GrecoTest/ usig the latest KRPano version. Edited the tablet-face size and will try on several sizes.
If you have access to an iPad 3 i woud be interested in hearing your opinion!

(that´s a non-edited version - there are some stitchig errors left.)

best to you, Klaus

Re: iPad Retina Display

I recently purchased an iPad with the new Retina display. I am noticing that the tonality across the screen is not even. The end near the power ...

Re: iPad Retina Display

I have an iPad 3 with Retina Display.  Yes your pano on the iPad is noticeably less crisp compared to my iMac screen.  I am having the same issues.  Lots of artifacts in gradients (a blue sky for instance) and general softness or blur on the retina display.
