I think perhaps a bug!..
I tested a few pano's and got the same with all.... I processed my pano's to test in V3 but when I put those same pano's into ptp, it will not let me create cube faces from them... “Only equirectangular panorama pictures are supported. Following files have been discarded.” Yet the images are the correct ratio.. I tried changing the size in Photoshop but same thing, they will not allow me to create cube faces so there must be some kind of data within the pano preventing this...

Are these panos shown to have a 2:1 aspect ratio when being rendered in APG?
Do you force a 360x180 pano FOV in APG when stitching?
I just ran through the process with APG 3 alpha1 and PTP 1.8 on WinXP/32 and it worked fine.

Hi Andrew... Yes, the ratio is 2:1.. 12042 X 6021
I tried a few with the same result.. ptp will not accept them for processing into cubes... I tried TIF and JPG.. Same results... If I optimised and resized the image to 2000 X 1000 the image so a lot smaller ptp then accepts the image to make into Cube faces...
Destiny..
PS.. I never force.... Just as them came...

I just made a 12k x 6k pixel JPEG and had no problem Exporting to cube faces with PTP 1.8 on WinXP/32.

emm... perhaps its a Mac thing... I have just done it again and same issue with V3... I stitched the same images using apg 2.6 with no issues in ptp 1.8..

No - right now i´m having open a 36000x18000px (MacPro, 10.6.8)
(But i´m struggeling with the ColorCorrection very hard . . .
- doesn´t let me change from "Auto" to "None")
best, Klaus
(Pano from this file made with 2.6.3 is here: http://www.360impressions.de/Schadowplatz2/)

The issue is whether you can export cube faces from this image using PTP 1.8 on a Mac?

I see - it was a 2.6.3 image, imported in PTP and exported as cubefaces (but still can´t re-import the faces . . )
Then i stitched and rendered a 15000x7500px image in V3, imported it to PTP - and got the same results as Destiny.

Seems it may be a bug on the Mac then.

btw.: how does the color correction behave on your PC? They seem to have put away the anchors. Now it´s a bit funny.

Oooh Alex... You have a BuuuUG!!...
I did some tests... A jpg, psd, psd converted to TIF, will all work... However, a TIF rendered output from apg 3 would not export cube faces from ptp 1.8... YESTERDAY! But today it will.. However the file size although 2:1 is different using the same images... So, it seems V3 cannot make up its mind re pano size.... I also had to close apg V3 twice since it would not render.. No progress at all...
So, now not sure if V3 has a bug...
I will close, reboot and start again....

Well, my bug turns out to be a temperamental bug.. Is all good now... Even using the same images that would not export as cubes yesterday..... Mined you, I keep getting different image size outputs, but all 2:1...

Hi.. well I have now tested my bug but it must be dead... ptp now exports cube faces with no issues in any formate, so I just do not know why it was acting up... I have just run a Photomatix fused set of images through apg 3... My god it was quick.. Detection took 5 seconds, the arraignment took about 8 seconds and the rendering took less than 60 seconds..... But.. the nadir footprint when using apg is not that nice... It has a large bar protruding which of course is the bottom rail.. Using PTGui on the other hand, I get a nice even nadir footprint with 'Very Good'.... I have discovered that there is a need for two different settings for each software app, more noticeable when using the VR Drive... I now realise why I was getting issues when using my NN4.. I set the rails NNP for PTGui and then had issues when stitching using apg...
I have now tried out the new fusing features of apg 3... Sorry.. still not for me... Ok.. now think about this scenario.. Which is my normal output at the moment.. I have just captured 20 panos.. I have captured using bracketed images.. The default setting in apg are not as I want them.. so I have a need to make adjustments... Question... how do I save my adjustments to pass on to the other 19 images or even the nadir patch.... There is no batch processing feature. Nothing to save and use for the rest.. Sooo time consuming to do them all individually and still not a nice fused image in my view..
Scenario 2... Using the same images I process my bracketed images using Photomatix, and tick my own preferred fusion settings, batch process them and go and make a coffee.. I run the nadir patch images at the same time... Since I am getting strange nadir footprints from apg I have no option but to stitch using PTGui.. The thing is.. apg is a much smarter software app. It coups with poor stitching a lot better than PTGui..... In my opinion apg is a much more powerful software app than PTGui but it lacks so much in so many areas.. Ok, I can get by with the terrible nadir footprint.. in most situations.. I am really happy it now detects the camera and lens when using Photomatix fused images.. .. I still have to put in the focal correctly but thats a small issue.. To be honest, I was hoping apg 3 fusion and hdr features were improved enough to consider it as a true alternative to using Photomatix... but it still has a long way to go in my view...

Thought I would add the nadir footprint examples... As I described above.... ![]()

Could it be possible to have a review on your workflow on that sample case ?
I'm sure we can do something that will give perfect result.

Hi Alex.. Nothing would please me more than to achieve perfect results from apg... If you can make this happen I will be very excited....
Ok.. Firstly I am not using apg to for fusion... I really feel LDR and HDR really let apg down big time...
I loaded my 12 fused images into apg... using the fused Photomitix images, I will tell you what I have done step by step.. For now I will stick with apg 2.6.3, if it all works I will test in V3..
After installing the images I click on Image Properties and see that my Nikon D90 has been recored but I chaned the focal from 15mm to 10.5mm. I find it does make a slight difference to final stitching... Nothing else to change... so ok...
Detection I just ticked Crop.... left the rest as is...
Optimisations, left it as it is...
Panorama, Spherical and Max projection range, left all other setting as is....
Render, left as is...
Next, Detect.... 4 secs, very fast...
Clicked Render.. took about 4 mins.. and you can now see the final image result..
If its a workflow for the fusion and staking of images you are after.. I give up.. you tell me...

I then increased the detection to the highest... Strangely enough you cannot see the rail jutting out of the nadir area on the preview, but you can on the rendered image... Even on high it took less than 60 secs..

Can you share this sample set on our ftp ?

Hi Alex.. I tried to use the ftp but that keeps bombing out.. I am sending you the file via web transfer using your email, with Destiny.zip attached....
I have tired other setting in apg 2.6, this time the Homography, what ever that does.. One thing I can tell you, Similarity is much quicker and even though the RMS were a little higher the final stitching was better.. Using the Homography set to high, I made a coffee or two or three, went shopping, had a manicure, cooked lunch and then made another coffee.. yay, its now rendered.. Even with a RMS of 3.43 Very Good, it was not as good as using the Similarity set on high or PTGui which took just a few minutes to process.. And the bar is still visible.. I have tried ticking on Force to use all images just in case apg thought it was so cleaver it did not need all of the images.. I will say, even using PTGui the stitching was not perfect for some reason.. but it was very quick to fix..
Anyway.. done my test.. Now you can play... ![]()

Hi Destiny.
There were a file on the ftp server, but unfortunately, not complete. Apparently cut at the middle of the transfer.
If you can try again, please ?
I didn't found any email from you, BTW.

Hi Alex.. Yes.. it gets half way then bombs out.. I might optimise the files to make them a lot smaller.. I really waned to send what I had to get a true comparison.. I also tried with the web transfer but that died too.. Its my modem.. the wireless is acting up. They are sending me out a new one..
;(

Hi Alex..
Sent at last, I hope... took forever.. Sorry, no nadir image to patch.. I am now testing out that new ghosting tool.. I saw the video but I do bracketed shots so capturing the nadir by hand is ok'ish, but I have to create my own exposure values from RAW to match the main images and then try it out.. But if it works as shown in the video, oh wow.. This would be a great feature also for fixing the ghosting effects.. I need to work out a way to capture the nadir using the VR Drive. They are working on a nadir adaptor apparently...

This is very easy: place your drive on a sturdy ball-head. After having shot the sphere: tilt the head to 90° - so the camera looks down.
Then pull the tripod aside the distance of the head´s height. The camera exactly looks down to the Nadir-point.Then pull up the center-column so that the lens is in the same height as during the sphere-shots.
That´s all - you get a perfect Nadir-shot and can do it bracketed.
I take my old Alpa-ballhead from my 8x10" large-format camera and put the Manfrotto or the Panoneed on it. No problem.
best, Klaus

Yes, I told Urs when I was talking about options that I could use my Acratech for this... The reason why I did not use it was due to the plate I have, its no good.. I need a new one.. The one I have is for my D90 with a lip on the back edge.. I need to find a flat plate but I must admit, I am a bit concerned at the the weight to one side since my tripod is carbon fibre so very light.. I will re-look at doing it this way..
