[APG 3.0.0.0 Alpha1] Win 32 / MacOS X: Crash

In contrast with its sibling under MS Vista-32bits on a PC , APG 3.0. a1 that was installed under Win-32 XP Pro SP2/WMWare Fusion on a Mac OS 10.8.6 machine just doesn't want to open and crashes immediately. All other precedent APG or APP versions worked fine though.

Strange... OS 10.6.8 is fine when using Fusion.... Try running it in 32 bit mode... if you haven't already done so....

What GPU is exposed through the WMWare fusion ? Could you play with settings in this area if there are some ?

AFAIK there is only one GPU onboard the concerned iMac 27": ATI Radeon HD 4850 w/512 MB of VRAM. I ignore if there are any accessible settings which I could tweak.
Please note that on the same computer under Mac OS 10.6.8 (64-bits), I am running intensively the Mac OS X (64-bits) version of  APG 3.0.0.0 Alpha 1.

So the same hardware works natively, but not through WMWare fusion smile Nice bug. I don't know yet if it is really our fault or WMWare ( or gpu used under WMWare ). Hypothesis are quite large here.

I don´t think it´s really clever using APG with Win in VMWare. When i use a hardware-demanding app under Windows i boot my MacPro or MacBook Pro with Win7.
It´s quick and easy done and runs without issues.

Even more puzzling is to consider that previous versions of APG work fine on Win WP through VMWare Fusion while APG 3.0A1 doesn't!

Thank you. By your suggestion you got me to realize that I forgot to check if the same problem with fusion occurs also on my MacBook Pro:)

I fully agree with you on your first and second sentence (Yes, it is not cleaver). Nevertheless and in the current context (of APG alpha-testing), I feel compelled to disagree with your last sentence: IMO that's NOT easy done, not at all!
I think that the developers of a software may appreciate to know if a reported bug is -or not- Operating System specific. When functionally testing the software, the investigation on a possibly OS related bug (first found on Mac OS) is easy and immediate on my part with OS virtualization: it is so convenient to keep simultaneously APG/Mac opened on my main monitor while APG/Win is opened on the second monitor.

I feel that do such a "Parallel" simultaneous tasking is not easy when having to boot alternatively my iMac and many times in a row on the two systems. And when I wanna use a hardware-demanding app under Windows I just boot one of our three... Windows PCs.

Michel

PS @ Alexandre: I use VMW Fusion 3.1.3. and I am not planning to update to v 4.0.

Re: [APG 3.0.0.0 Alpha1] Win 32 / MacOS X: Crash

Hi Michael,

do I understand that setup correct:
you have a Mac OS 10.8.6 Intel based Mac and you use the vmware fusion software to run Windows software in your mac while mac OS is running, here autopano...?

why dont you use leopard compatible autopano software to run it natively on Mac OS?
http://download.kolor.com/apg/beta/macleopard

Mac Homepage lists an update for your reported Mac OS 10.8.6 maschine:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1400
(update makes your leopard ready to upgrade to lion and some more fixes...)
Do you have this update installed?

vmware (I only used vmwar player on win7 to run linux in vm's...) does come with virtual graphic drivers - not using drivers of the card manufacureres, so no native nvidea or ATI driver etc. Did you / can you test parallels on mac... it should handle hardware built into mac books etc far better than third party vmware product. maybe its possible to test parallels before buying it (I knwo its more expensive than the vmware fusion...)

Georg

Hi Georg,

Yes, I have a Mac [OS 10.6.8 (10K549) w/Kernel Darwin 10.8.0] Intel based iMac . That is the last available Snow Leopard version before Mac OS 10.7 Lion (which I do not intend to upgrade to). I use Leopard compatible APG software to run it natively (and dozens of other SW) on Mac OS X (64bits). Therefore I currently use this (i)Mac OS X as the principal means to test APG 3.0a1. In short: running Snow Leopard is currently my preferred and "almost exclusive" way of using a computer.

As do most other Fusion users, I (rarely) launch the VMWare Fusion software that is kind of a Mac OS X application. I use it to run Windows XP 32-bits on two Macs. I therefore (and rarely) use XP to make some (Windows-only) software able to run on the Mac when it's convenient. And I do this without needing to quit Mac OS X.I've just to boot MS Win-XP by launching VMWare. For instance, I can thus run the same Kolor software simultaneously on two OS for parallel investigation of bugs and possibly determine if a bug occurrence depends on the Operating System in use. I have reported such occurrence several times in the past here. I do not need to fire up another machine and the source images as well as destination folders (aka directories) can be shared between the two tested software as they would be on a server.
If independent confirmation of the dependence (of the anomaly) on the Operating System is required, I may then go to another room to use  PCs (Windows XP or Vista) that BTW are networked with the iMac ...

Hi Michael!

What i meant was:  booting a Mac with Win instead (!) of OSX is easily done. I myself prefer it when i want to use Win. I also have a VM - but i never use it with hardware-dritical applications.

best, Klaus

Re: [APG 3.0.0.0 Alpha1] Win 32 / MacOS X: Crash

AutoPano Giga 3.0a1 crashes before even it starts exactly the same way on my MacBook Pro as on my iMac. Identical S/W configuration on both machines (except: Snow Leopard is 32-bits on the laptop). Microsoft provided Error Reports seem identical at first sight.

Previous version was using OpenGL in an easy mode. It doesn't work the same now. Now, we do full shader rendering instead of polygon rendering. I guess I have to look into VMWare fusion changelog to see if that part of OpenGL is supported.

P.S.:

you see: i´m trying to get my work done - being in troubles i didn´t look too much posting in the correct thread, sorry . . i guess it´s related to 3.0 very well anyway, because the problem started only after installing it . .
