I've received an email from Andrew Baddeley (aka Badders) formely of 360 Tactical VR advising that he has closed down that business and is now an Account Manager for NCTech who have launched an equivalent/competitor to the girocam.

Any idea how much these cost? I couldn't find any clues on the web site.
Seems to be only a single example image on the site so far. If it's so quick and easy to get great pano images one wonders why there aren't more on the web site.

looking at the demo pano online...
ptp standard menu, so internally the images get (automatically?) stiched as it looks like... did not read all text ;-)
but what I wonder:
why cubic form? why not a smaller base and longer in z axis to get an acceptable nadir area. This is again one more device with an such huge nadir...
... the device is around 10x10cm so my Merlin is bigger but the merlin does create a smaller nadir... so the 4 lenses have far less than 180° FOV covering the zenith but with the bigger (empty) nadir...
Georg
PS: the datasheet tells about ;-) :
Full spherical 360° x 275° +/- 5° Image

The cubic form might be to protect the lenses.
Yes no nadir, would it work to use a ballhead, rotate 90 degrees sideways and pull tripod back a bit for a second "shot"?
It seems to take 10 seconds to do a pano, so absolutely not something for on top of a car. But well suited for quick and good panoramas.
Price will be important. If it is more expensive then the girocam it will only have quality speaking for itself, while girocam seems faster. If less then girocam it will blow the girocam out of the water.

Ce n'est pas un concurrent, le iStar est vendu 6 295€ HT pour la version Fusion et 10 495€ HT pour la version Pulsar... La Girocam est à 1500€
This is not a competitor, the iStar is sold for € 6,295 for Fusion version and € 10 495 for version Pulsar ... The Girocam is € 1500

People are very confident in their (marketing) skills.
Wrong data in the datasheet; a nadir you can name a black hole (but stating their fullspheres have 10000x5000pixels); announcing on the website to use the device on scrime scenes
... lollollol

and I have to state a big WOW:
in following link they offer on QR code to an 3D model of the istar device,
well as alternative look at the (non working) link for users with no QR reader... the link domain is a TLD of Lybia.
http://www.nctech.co.uk/iSTAR_Explore.php
so - really - which company trying to sell expensive hightech hardware does have the "courage" to publish a link of an topleveldomain based in Lybia?

When it is crap also, it is very much like the Girocam, so competitors in crappyness ;-)

Well thats right.. which one is the crapyest.. I did hear that the BOXCAM is a bit like the Russian Matryoshka doll.. Inside the Crapy BOXCAM you will find the GrioCAN, and inside the GiroCAN you will find 6 throw away Kodak cameras rapped tother with masking tape..
Surely they could have fond a much better location to capture their debut Virtual Tour.. It looks like they must either have their office next to the Janitors or its is the janitors office.. Their web site, if it does what it says, should be flooded with Virtual Tours since they only take SECONDS to make. What a crock!!...
Destiny..
Honestly, Destiny - besides of all technical reality: i don´t like your style of writing. You offend people resp. their product by using words like "crappy", "crock" and so on.
Think about your own website when you started and the way you presented yourself as THE super-professional photographer then . . . that was funny - but i never would
have named it "crappy" . . definitely not in public at least . . .

Emm… Don’t worry, I won’t take offence to your favorite word “Stupid!”.. So far you have referred to yourself as “Stupid me”, asking “Stupid questions” and “That’s kind of Stupid..”
And the Stupid thing about it.. I totally agree with you..
Destiny
I´m afraid you didn´t get the point. I´d never name other people´s products "crappy" and so on - regardless what i think about the products.
In my eyes it´s bad style to bash other people´s products in such a manner, with such words. That´s beyond reasonable criticism.
But: i´ve said what i mean and that´s it.
