Hi, I am new in autopano giga.
I do have a few questions about the size and weight of my panorama; I am currently using a D90 with a 14-24 f2.8. I do virtual tours but I am wondering what would be the size of a 360 panorama (27 images according to the focal) and what would be the weight of my final image ?
If it is to heavy or to big should I have to resize them all or just the final image ?
I am asking as i want the best quality for a short loading period of time.
Thank you very much for your help ![]()

http://www.howardedin.com/articles/fov.html says that that's 81 arcseconds/pixel (at 14mm), around the centre that would be ~16kpixels for 128 megapixel equirectangular. What size this comes out in PTP depends on the settings you choose, but i find this ball park to be a reasonable trade of between size and resolution in most cases. Its hard to say for sure without knowing what sort of final numbers you seek.
You are probably best of scaling the rendered image rather than the sourece images, either during or after rendering in APG.
Also consider a fisheye lens to reduce the number of images required if your budget fits

Fish eye will destroyes quality, nikon 14-24 is the sharpest Wide angle. What size do you think would be the best compromise for a quick loading time and a really sharp and nice quality ?
Thanks for your answer ![]()

Nikon´s 14-24mm is an excellent lens. But not for pano.
The best compromise for quick loading time and excellent quality is a good fisheye on a fullframe camera.
See it here: www.360impressions.de/Zuerichbar.html (make it fullscreen) Canon 5D2 and Canon 15mm fisheye. 7 shots.
best, Klaus

It would be then off my budget as I would have to buy a d700... so what would be the best setups for a nikon user with a d90 ? 10-24 ? i a currently using a tarpon 11-18 but this lens is not sharp enough...
another question what is the size of file you sent me ?
thank you very much ![]()

For a DX Nikon the definitely best lens for panos is the 10,5mm fisheye. I did this one with a Canon 20D and 10,5mm Nikon fisheye:
http://360impressions.de/Mini1.html
I didn´t sent you a file - just postet a link to the pano.
The Zuerichbar.html as a pano has about 6MB completely. It´s 10000x5000px.

Thanks for your answer I know you did not send it to me.
The last link you sent looks ok however I want some better quality. I want to be able to zoom a bit more. Moreover i can see you actually moved when you took it it is a bit blurry in some part.

The blurryness is the movement of people in the crowd, not of the camera itself, this would only be avoided by cranking up the iso and introducing more noise, or shooting in better light. The 20D is 8MP vs the 12MP of your D90, so you would indeed have a little more resolution (~50%) if you shot the same sceen. Of course the file size would then increase accordingly

Because basically my dilemma is 14-24 (21mm with a d90) or 10,5 as I have a roundshot vr so it is quite easy and fast to do 360x180

So do a test shot, process it and see if the final size and quality meets your needs, shouldnt take more than 20mins

Again (and now for the last time - because i have a feeling you don´t listen anyway):
I assume you mean the 14-24/2,8 lens? It´s definitely not ideal on a DX camera. It´s brilliant on fullframe - but here also not for spherical panos.
You are much faster using a fisheye.
The best quality and a reserve for zooming you will get using a fullframe camera with a fullframe fisheye like the Nikon 16mm or Canon 15mm on a 21mpx body.
You say: money´s not a problem: why the heck don´t you use a high-resolution fullframe then instead of a crop-camera?
I suggest a Nikon D3x or a Canon 5D2 with fisheye.
If you want more zoom-into you need to make more shots using a lens like 35mm or longer. But then you´ll get RALLY heavy data in the range of some hundred MB.
This one is about 700MB on the server: http://360impressions.de/Wuppertal/ (first and last scene 35mm, middle scene 85mm, both Nikon primes on a Canon 5D2 body).
best and good luck, Klaus
