Hard drive crash. Help!

Firstly, avoid using Corsair SSD's. Just had my second fail on me, Useless bloody things.

Disk failed during a tour build. Also on the disk were the original input photos for the stitch by APG.

Just in case I can't recover it with Acronis Disk Director...

I have the .pano file, because I made sure I kept lots of backups, but have now lost the images associated with it.

I have the original RAW files, and so can re-export to create the images again, but I don't know how to go about hooking up the .pano with the images.

(I haven't lost the .kro output)

All help appreciated - hopefully this is a simple thing to fix!

Re: Hard drive crash. Help!

what do you mean with hook up...

if you open the .pano file with an plain text editor you see that the content is pure xml.

each image has blocks like this:

Code:

<Image>
    <FullFilename> K:\test-20110913\raw-to-jpg\_MG_6854.JPG </FullFilename>
    <Focal35mm> 136 </Focal35mm>
    <LensModel> 0 </LensModel>
    <FisheyeRadius> 0 </FisheyeRadius>
    <FisheyeCoffX> 0 </FisheyeCoffX>
    <FisheyeCoffY> 0 </FisheyeCoffY>
</Image>

<Camera>
    <Model> 0 </Model>
    <Yaw> -1.80363 </Yaw>
    <Pitch> -0.0544483 </Pitch>
    <Roll> -0.0150745 </Roll>
    <F> 13433.4 </F>
    <K1> -0.00514509 </K1>
    <K2> 0 </K2>
    <K3> 0 </K3>
    <OFFSET_X> 0 </OFFSET_X>
    <OFFSET_Y> 0 </OFFSET_Y>
    <H00> 1 </H00>
    <H01> 0 </H01>
    <H02> 0 </H02>
    <H10> 0 </H10>
    <H11> 1 </H11>
    <H12> 0 </H12>
    <H20> 0 </H20>
    <H21> 0 </H21>
    <H22> 1 </H22>
</Camera>

<Color>
    <Model> 2 </Model>
    <Type> 1 </Type>
    <Values> 2.20 2.20 -0.01 </Values>
</Color>

so if you'Ve the .pano file you have all settings and the places and names of used images. If you can recreate the source images
you even can rename the imagenames or the names placed in xml file. after all is on correct place, start autopano load the pano file and it should be no error message. if a image is still missing (e.g. you did a typo...) than you're asked to find the image on disk...

I use 2 OCZ SSDs and have them in use since minimum 2 years... so worth the more money...

if you did not postprocess your tiffs or jpgs from raw... than you even can change the filenames in the pnao file to refer to the rawe files directly.
it then get autopano internally converted to tiff...

PS: SSD crash. if your rescue tool is not SSD specially ready than take care this tool does not do things like defragmentation.... absolutley nonsens on SSDs and reduces the livetime in xhundret percent!

Re: Hard drive crash. Help!

Many thanks Georg -

When I say "hook up", I mean associate the .pano file with the new images that I generate.

Your explanation as to the structure of the .pano file was most helpful - thank you very much.

I am wondering though whether I would even need to do a find/replace on the file though. If I just open it up, but the hard drive that the images were stored on no longer exists, can I just repoint to the new folder, and it will find all images, or would I need to go through each one individually (there are over 4,000 images in this panorama)?

Regarding the SSD's - mine were Corsair Force Series 3 (240GB). I wanted to get OCZ's, but unfortunately couldn't find a dealer for them here in Dubai.

I just remember that if some images are missing you get asked automatically. So why not with 4000 missing ;-))
... but cant give a guarantee ;-)
... search & replace with a modern texteditor should not be much work...

about ocz... I found my in following shop located in Austria...
... so maybe send a mail asking if they also deliver to Dubai - but why not?
I can give a good expertise at this shop. did buy several time during last 2 years, always best service.

.

yep, open the pano file, APG then says: where are the jpgs?
- then choose new folder with all associated files and you're back in business

you can also have extra files in that folder and apg will ignore any that aren't documneted in the pano file
