Weird Behavior with Version 2.6

Downloaded the update and the installation went well. However, with a test rendering of two NEF (Nikon RAW files) they loaded just fine from the target directory and the thumbnails look great in Group 1. However, when I initiate detect, the pano window shows a jumbled and highly pixelated image. When I open the editor it is blank and no image whatsoever. However, it renders just fine. Testing these two images in V2.5.2

The images have an RMS of 2.03 in version 2.5.2 and 1.93 in version 2.6 so I would imagine the image quality is not an issue.

Also, when exiting 2.6 it crashes. Have unistalled and will stick with 2.5.2 for now

Any ideas?

What ATI video hardware do you have? This sounds like a previously reported ATI GPU problem.

Problem solved, looked at the XP error message, it blew up with the following diagnostic information

AppName: autopanopro_win32.exe     AppVer: 2.6.0.400     ModName: atioglxx.dll
ModVer: 6.14.10.8545     Offset: 0005d264

That gave me the clue, with 2.6 GPU is enabled by default, wheras 2.5.2 GPU is set to off by default. Turning GPU off solved the problem and all is rendering OK.

Thanks

Re: Weird Behavior with Version 2.6

welcome on forum ;-)) also referring to your other posting I hope to see really soon some panos - 4x5 of whichever other format ,-))

if you plan bigger (in sens of near to or over the gigapixel sized) panos - and the virus will also come to your door ;-)...
I can give your the tip to change to a 64bit computer. this will speed up speed once more and gives you also the freedom to use more than the RAM limits allow for an 32bit computer...

Georg

The bug is already here and I have really maxed out my poor old XP system, but there maybe a 64 bit systen sitting in Santa's sleigh:P

Most of my work is sized at 7inches x 17 inches, a hold over from the days when I owned an old banquet camera (took 7x17 negatives). Easy to frame and sell quite well. I am working on a pano of Yosemite and that is just a tad under a gigapixel and really taxes my system smile So hurry up Santa

Re: Weird Behavior with Version 2.6

Some comments on the remark here :
- Pixelate preview. That may happen when GPU mode is enabled by default. Or in this mode, we use integrated preview from RAW or Jpeg to quickly display something. It doesn't have the same quality as a real raw or jpeg open. So this may explain it. BTW : if you open the editor, it should refresh and be perfectly clean.
- Yes, we have an issue open with ATI 1400, 1500, 1600 graphics cards. We'll introduce an compatibility mode to solve that soon.
- XP ? Waouh. Quite old operating system. I really encourage you to switch to a 64bits version ( vista or seven ).

Yes my XP system is old, my graphics card is the ATI Radeon X600, good in it's day, but really dated now. I have held off upgrading as I have invested hours with color calibrating this card against my monitor and printers (Epson 7880 & 3800). But as you say, I need to bite the bullet and go to a 64 bit system. But will quite a time investment moving my software (Adobe Products, Light Room & PShop - de authorizing licenses and moving catalogs etc) and making sure all my hardware devices have drivers that really work)

Re: Weird Behavior with Version 2.6

Yes, and have been running this driver for quite some time. GPU support for this video card is a real problem and Photoshop CS5 refuses to recognize this card as GPU enabled.

I am in the process of getting a new PC (64 bit) with video card that is supported by Adobe which should work with with APP.

Thanks for getting back to me on this......

Cheers

Mike

Here is the data returned when running the APP test feature: This is from the latest driver and latest version of APP (2.6.1). Re-installed the driver, ran the test again, same results, and if I set GPU as enabled, APP 2.6.1 crashes on exit. So unless you clever folks can figure out what is wrong with this card, I will have to upgrade smile

Cheers
