Need Instructions for Win7 Bluetooth default, or dongle information

Neither dongle or Bluetooth works with Papywizard.  Instruction on website are for Mac, but running Win 7 pro.  Module on Pano Head continually blinks -- no connection.  Assistance anyone?  I find all of this rather confusing.  Documentation meant for seasoned techs, not newcomers.  Frustrated.

Welcome to the forum...

Do I understand correctly that you are using a third-party Bluetooth USB 'dongle' on your Windows 7 PC and the Deltawave PapyMerlin (Panogear) Bluetooth adapter on your Merlin mount?

You should use standard Microsoft drivers for the Bluetooth USB 'dongle' - Papywizard doesn't work with some other third-party Bluetooth drivers/stacks.

Then this is the approach that works for me with Windows XP (I don't have Windows 7 so I cannot create Windows 7 screenshots to illustrate the process):

1. Pair the Bluetooth USB dongle and the Deltawave PapyMerlin Bluetooth adapter using Windows Bluetooth utility.

2. Note the COM port assigned to the Bluetooth serial link.

3. Choose a serial plug-in in Papywizard and configure the plug-in to the COM port identified in the previous step. One can assign values such a '1' or 'COM1' but Papywizard enumerates COM ports from zero, so enter '1' or 'COM2', '2' or 'COM3' and so on.

You should only need to do steps 1-3 one time.

4. Finally use Hardware/Connect to establish the Bluetooth wireless connectiion between Papywizard and the merlin mount. You should then be able to move the head using the arrow key icons on the Papywizard main screen. Now you are ready to configure the system to match your camera and lens and to define your desired Moasic mode shoot or Preset mode shoot.

Re: Need Instructions for Win7 Bluetooth default, or dongle information

Thank you for your response!

I don't understand "deltawave" as the products included in my box do not have any labeling.  I received a blue box with an RJ-11 plug on it, presummably to go into the panogear head in the AUX jack.  I also received a blue USB dongle, presummably to be used if I was unable to pair the blue RJ-11 box directly to the bluetooth radio on the Windows7 platform.

The blue RJ-11 box pairs with the Win7 platform; however, it will not connect when using the Hardware/connect menu option from PapyWizard.  The blue RJ-11 box continues to blink, although the Papywizard icon shows in the device listing in the Win7 OS.  I also tried this from my Mac OSX 10.6 with the same results.  Neither allows me to "connect" so the arrow buttons on Papywizard are not enabled.

The physical controller seems to move the head about; however, I am unable to download the technical manual from the Kolor Website as I receive a "Forbidden" message on the download page.  This happens in both MSIE, Safari, and Chrome on both my Win and Mac computers.  I do not have both the physical controller and the blue RJ-11 box connected to the panogear head at the same time.

I have used the default of "1234" to establish the bluetooth pairing operation.  The Papywizard driver lists established connection as com10.  Nevertheless, I am unable to connect,

So, I am not--according to what I understand--using a "third party" device, unless you are referring to the "blue dongle" received in the panogear shipment as "third party.'

I hope I am making sense.  I have tried--I believe I did it correctly--what you requested, but have not achieved the desired results.  I will try to bring my old XP machine online later today and give that a try.

In my frustration, I have removed all the COM ports and reinstalled them in the control panel (similar to Win XP) and have repeated the procedure.  I have also disabled the bluetooth radio on the laptop and used the blue dongle supplied, but the results are the same.  The dongle installs, pairs, but will not connect.

Maybe you have some other suggestions while I ponder this and do it all again.  Thanks so much for your contact and assistance.  I appreciate having this forum.  I didn't realize when I made the purchase, that this was NOT a "plug & play" operation :-)  Do you have any insight regarding why I might be unable to download the technical documentation from the Website?

Thank you so much

Re: Need Instructions for Win7 Bluetooth default, or dongle information

Hi Bob,

Yes, the blue Bluetooth-TTL adapter is what I described as a Deltawave Papymerlin Bluetooth adapter. It's marketed also by Kolor as part of the panogear branded product line.

Built-in Bluetooth devices sometimes don't work with Papywizard because they use a non-Microsoft driver/stack.

But if you can pair the USB 'dongle' and the blue Bluetooth-TTL adapter then that's not the issue.

Papywizard cannot detect/identify the COM port assigned to the Bluetooth serial 'port' - you have to determine that using the Windows Bluetooth utility and then manually enter that value into Papywizard - did you do that?

Then you need to choose serial rather than Bluetooth for the Yaw, Pitch and Shutter plug-ins in Papywizard - did you do that?

You should never connect the regular hand controller and the blue BT-TTL adapter to the Merlin mount at the same time - but it seems you are not doing that.

Another point: you can't let both the bluetooth module and the hand controller connected at the same time...

Could you post the logs, right after the connection failed?

Re: Need Instructions for Win7 Bluetooth default, or dongle information

Andrew,

Well, I finally have the panogear head working, but had to use the USB dongle with the "bluetooth" protocol listed in the pitch, yaw, and shutter fields.  Mine is now operating on COM17, Win7 BT radio is on, and the dongle installs itself when put into the USB jack.  I entered the "1234" as noted in the documentation and it connected.

I must now figure out many of the terms used in the remainder of the Papywizard software.  This has been quite an experience.  Also, thank AutoPano Team for forwarding the copy of the Technical Documentation as an email attachment.  I now see the Website has been fixed, and if needed in the future I can download directly from the Kolor Website.

Now to get busy and learn how to make some awesone panoramas with the new equipment.  Thanks again everyone.
