High-rez image replacement for gigaphotos on iOS

For the moment, IOS support is done through panoramas (which work great!). Gigaphotos are not supported yet, possibly due to inherent limitations of the device regarding number and total size of downloaded images, general overall RAM limits, etc.

Though there seem to be workarounds in place using Canvas, etc: http://roblaplaca.com/blog/2010/05/05/i … orkaround/ support is not there yet and proposed workarounds might be a) difficult to implement or b) unadvisable

As a simpler workaround in the meantime we could have the iOS 'site' display a reasonably-sized photo of the gigaphoto, composed of a single image larger than the screen of the iOS device (only two sizes possible anyway). The familiar pinch-zoom gesture could still be used to zoom in an out and even though users don't get the same level of detail at least a seamless experience is delivered that mirrors the one found on Flash-enabled devices. In this manner, even though of less quality, iOS version is not 'crippled'.

Let me know what you think, thanks.

Re: High-rez image replacement for gigaphotos on iOS

Interesting, we have been trying to display gigaphotos on devices ourselves. I suppose many of us are trying.

We would like to read more about this topic, especially from Kolor and Krpano.

Please let us know if you find a solution or a workaround. We will let you know if we do.

Regards

... however display gigaphotos on IOS devices is possible. You can see an example with your IOS device in Gigapan:

Yes that is pretty awesome.

But still haven't seem any of those for spherical panoramas or 360, only flat panos.

All the gigaphotos I have seen have this "gigapan platform" kind of way of displaying the image. With the flat pano in this black background. I wish wee could see something in 360 or spherical.
