Hey guys, I remember reading a long time ago a post about the Merlin head getting a bit of slippage after time and use. Is there anything we can do to tighten the gears up after time or do we just replace them? Sorry in advance if this is a repost.

You can't tighten the gears, and, AFAIK, Synta does not sell them alone...

But isn't this more likely to be the friction plate - so you can just tighten the nuts on the axle?

yes did it once while last year. just be careful to not tight it to hard so gear get damaged...
as I remeber the posting there are two bolts one on each side and onyl one of them should be tighten...

I tightened the frictions for panning and tilting - no problem. But better don´t move the head by hand after that - you´ll weaken it again.
You also can change the material which provides slipping - i don´t remember it´s name. Paul knows!

Thanks Klaus (and others). That is what I remembered reading, do not move by hand. I just noticed often in the field the head had moved during transit and wanted to make sure it was it peak condition.
