More Cores / GHZ, or GPU for UI performance?

Hi Folks, Just wondering where to add resources to my system for APG, the specific pinpoint I have is that the UI can become slow to respond when updating things like colour correction etc. Current system has 48GB or ram and dual E5520 2.26 Ghz quad core Xeons The upgrade I was planning is for dual ...

Re: Plugin for manual heads

Hi Joe This might be of help - papywizard XML files for a similar situation to the one you're in - I'm shooting 7 row (plus zenith and nadir) 60mm on a full frame camera (zenith's are at +85 degrees to stop the camera flipping them to landscape) With Nadir https://www.dropbox.com/s/7rr0synyypied8w/6...

Re: AutoPano 4 - RAW decoding on multiple cores ?

Just did a couple of 142 image panos last week, one using RAW images, the other TIFFs. Saving the TIFFs out took about the same amount of time as the single core decoding the RAWs in APG 4 - in other words the savings by not having APG decoding RAW was negated by the time spent saving out the TIFF v...

Re: Stitching Nadir with different lens

can APG use different lenses in the same pano? Yes, but as I recall the ratio of focal lengths cannot exceed 4. Argh, so with the nadir done as 14mm, the maximum I could use is 56mm? Or, I shoot the nadir at 15-16mm. Have I got the maths right? :) In theory I believe it should be able to: http://ww...

Stitching Nadir with different lens

Hi, Can someone point me to if / where there's documentation for the specific thing I'm trying to do. I shoot 142 images with a 60mm lens to get everything in a spherical pano but the nadir. I shoot the nadir handheld with a 14mm so I get full floor coverage over the extent of the tripod's legs. I i...

.kro raw file workflow question

Hi, Just wondering what the workflow is for .kro files on a Mac. My hope was to import my RAWs into APG, do the stitch and then export a RAW file that I can then take back into Aperture to perform (non-destructive) adjustments. However I don't seem to be able to get the .kro to do this. I found a ut...

guide to temporary files size

Hi, I was just wondering if there's a rule of thumb or guide to how much space is required for temporary files during the stitch & render, as compared to how big & how many input files are used. I'm thinking of trying to locate my temp files onto a RAM disk, and need to figure out how big to...

Re: 4.0 b5 / 3.7.1 Antighost Memory Failure on Little Planet

ahh OK, thanks - looking at the preferences I just saw that it's stating how many overlapped images can be used based on memory availability. I guess it's just bizarre that it won't work in 3.7.1, but if I open the same pano in 3.7.0 it'll render fine.

Re: 4.0 b5 / 3.7.1 Antighost Memory Failure on Little Planet

Just wanted to bump this - can I get any sort of clarification as to whether this is a bug that will be fixed, or if something was changed in 3.7.1 so that rendering non-standard projections like little planet requires more RAM than in 3.7.0 (where the same stitch and images worked fine - albeit wit...

Re: Which parts of APG4 are multicore? Slow warping.

Thanks for the response - so what would explain the observed behaviour? I'm seeing the opposite of what you're saying.

Could there be a bug in APG where it's progress indicator isn't correctly stating which task it's currently performing?

4.0 b5 / 3.7.1 Antighost Memory Failure on Little Planet

Hi, So a problem that was introduced in 3.7.1 and carries over to 4.0 b5 - Antighost fails, as below: http://www.golgotha.com.au/public_stuff/antighost.png When attempting to render a Little Planet, or Fisheye, Mirrorball etc projection. Standard Spherical seems to output OK Panorama contains 142 im...

Which parts of APG4 are multicore? Slow warping.

Hi, I'm noticing that rendering feels slower than 3.7 - in particular the warping stage doesn't use more that 1 cpu core, once it gets to antighost all 16 max out and it tears through that portion, but then once it gets back to the warping task, back down to 1 core. Is his normal, fixable, or someth...

Re: AutoPano 4 - RAW decoding on multiple cores ?

A is also good. I'd be happy to do the raw decoding in Aperture then send tiffs (which are about 4x the file size of raw) or jpgs over to APG, though my question becomes how well APG's colour adjustments handle working on "developed" files vs RAWs. The vignetting and gradient controls for ...

Re: AutoPano 4 - RAW decoding on multiple cores ?

My hand up for this as well - 142 36MP RAWs, and with dual quad core Xeons, ive got 15 cores twiddling their thumbs while 1 is cycling between 30-100% on raw decoding, and taking for ever. Is there a way to get more cores working on RAW decoding?

APG 3.7.1 Fails rendering on Mac with memory issues

Hi, Running the current version of Mac OS X Yosemite, and the 3.7.1 update broke rendering. It produces an error message relating to running out of ram in the antighost stage. Recovering my 3.7 install via Time Machine, the same autopano projects render successfully. Any ideas? System is Late 2009 M...

Re: Plug-in for matrixes and manual-heads?

Thanks for the tips :) If you'd like to revisit your earlier pano photography days I could sell you a Nikon 995, an FC-E8 fisheye add-on lens and a matching pano head. :) haha, I've still got my 995, and the wc-24 adapter. In fact, I'm shooting on my old Kaidan spherical head from that era as well :...

Re: Plug-in for matrixes and manual-heads?

Ahh cool, thanks for the tips, I'll give it a go. :) Would you mind clarifying for me if you're aware of how these templates interact with the actual matching and stitching process? For example I aim to have my pano head at 67.5 degrees, which is what I'd put in the xml file, but APG detects & l...

Re: Plug-in for matrixes and manual-heads?

Much appreciated :)

Is there documentation for where to get the information for things like the sensor coef value etc?

Will APG still do all its detecting and stitching when I use this to input the images, or does this override stuff like EXIF in the files etc?

Thanks.

Re: Plug-in for matrixes and manual-heads?

This is something I've been trying to figure out as well - I'm evaluating APG and shoot with an old manual head. My shoots are always 7 rows, 20 columns plus zenith and nadir. Every shoot is (starting at zero on the panohead's yaw): zenith, 3 rows, horizon row, 3 rows, nadir. It would be good to be ...
