Testing a few things out

Hi all. Not particularly impressive, but I wanted to test a few things out and thought I'd share the result with you here for any feedback/thoughts/suggestions/advice (from a technical perspective). This is my first attempt at: - a 360 degree panorama - shooting and feeding Autopano Giga with RAW - ...

So nice to see a panorama of natural beauty - I'm kind of limited to man made cities in the desert myself.

Got to ask though - how come there is no reflection of the clouds in the water?

Really? Wow. That's way above the stated weight tolerance of the head.

Hmm. Got me thinking now...

35 billion pixels of sky.

What's to stop someone taking that 67GP shot of Rio and photoshopping in another 50GP of sky?

Hi Henrik - To date I've been using either the 100-400mm zoom, or for a couple of the smaller ones, the 200mm f/2.8. Started off using a Manfrotto 303SPH, now using the Gigapan Epic Pro. The Gigapan should be able to take the weight of the 7D, 300 f/2.8 and a teleconverter. Not sure which head would...

Hi Henrik -

Thanks for the suggestions. As it so happens, I've got a 300 f2.8 coming next month. Can't wait to try it out.

There are plans in the works for the 45GP panorama to be printed. Not sure how big yet - I'll provide details at a later date.

Regards,

Gerald.

Agreed - the quality is fantastic. The presentation is also excellent - it's certainly given me a few ideas. When it comes to quality, to my mind, it's mainly down to air quality and lens quality. The quality of the Dubai 45GP one is pretty poor compared to others I've done at other times of year. ...

You missed one out - there was a 31GP pano done of the Swiss Alps that came out just a week before my Dubai one. Wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largest_photographs_in_the_world (Going by the publication dates, I don't think the Marburg and Vienna images ever actually held the reco...

The records don't last very long these days, do they? Rio: 67GP - http://gigapan.org/gigapans/54825/ who will break the 100GP record first ???? Kolor, it's an idea, no ? If it wasn't for the terrible air quality here in Dubai through the summer, I would have done a 100GP+ panorama already. As I men...

Just crunching some numbers. 50.5 gigapixels from only 3600 images? That averages out at 14MP per image. I'm assuming this was with a 5D MkII? Also - why so much sky? With the Dubai one, I've kind of had an excuse because I have to get the full height of the Burj Khalifa in the shot. With this one,...

There are a couple of other panoramas that I've uploaded that I think demonstrate very well the impact of air quality on these. Firstly, here's a 10GP panorama (using a 5D and 100-400mm zoom at 400mm) that was taken on a day where visibility was probably pretty similar to the 45GP one: http://www.gi...

A new world record - 44.88 gigapixel photo of Dubai

4250 individual shots, stitched together by Autopano Giga. No editing at all (because there's no way I can edit it). What you see is without any human intervention at all. No doubt there are plenty of errors in there somewhere, but I've only just uploaded it, and this is the first time I've been abl...

Just running another one, and a similar problem. This time I set it to 50% to be on the safe side. 2173 images from a 7D which Gigapan (not perfectly) stitched to around 16GP is coming out at 266613*180841 (48GP). 628.1mm focal length 35mm equivalent. 97.48*72.42 FOV. Apologies GURL - I missed out o...

Thanks guys. More details:

Field of view: 106.9 degrees wide by 64.8 degrees high
Focal length (35mm equiv.): 314.1 mm

Gigapan stitched this into 4.3GP, so there's almost an order of magnitude difference here.

Autopano Giga producing "oversized" panorama

Hi all - I've only recently purchased the software, and I guess I'm still somewhat at the experimental stage. Autopano Giga is currently rendering a 506 image panorama, but the 100% size reported is 255607*121452 (31GP). Clearly this can't be correct from 7D source images. Not really sure what I cou...
