Just for information ... The "tickness" of the original Merlin crown is 44,3 mm The "tickness" of the modified crown is 15 to 17 mm So that the total Tickness gain you create by using a modified crown is +/- 27 to 30 mm MAX We have allways considered that 23 mm gain was a practical figure !!! sorry...

I may try to make the mechanical part, so some questions: 0. is there a real demand for such a kit? 1. better adjustable to match different cams or fixed sized for each different cam? 2. how professional must the cov...

The Merlin is a damned cheap device with some backlash and if you don't screw it on a big block of concrete it will wobble. But who will carry a block of concrete all the time? If you are looking for stable motorhead then the Clauss Rodeon with motor brake may be the right choice if the tripod ist s...

if you can't get the clearance you need then it is not a big deal to seperate the vertical arm of the Merlin from the horizontal base and reassemble it using a custom made distance block. you need to ad-lib a lil bit to cover the encoder on the base.

just two quick and dirty mobile shots of the original crown

one shows that the crown can be flattened down ca. 10mm to get more clearance

one shows the crowns backside with the red plastic pad which gives more friction

Promote Control is a pricey and somewhat dumb device compared to DIYPhotobits.com free Camera Control running on an netbook, which does not cost more than Promote Control more about: http://thepres.wordpress.com/2010/04/29/wireless-camera-control-and-bracketing-overdrive-on-a-budget/

6+2 for 360x180 I shoot in less than 1:30

the total height is less than 30cm, so I put my Merlin with mounted cam in a small bag
or together with second cam, spare batteries, tripod, lenses etc in a photo trolley

Hi Jan,

if you connect BT-Module and Handcontroller at the same time, the BT interferes with the Handcontroller. The RX TX are wired together on the BT.

AFAIK you must not connect them in parallel.
